Hi everyone,

I'm from the US and wish to purchase either a Nokia 6585 or 6225 to use on the Verizon network here. I would be very interested in purchasing one of these phones from a forum member if the phones are not locked. Does anyone know? Thanks.

The phones doe have a SPC code set in them that you need to reprogramme. These aren't hard to locate if you talk to the right person.
Your biggest issue will be getting Verizon to connect the handset should you manage to purchase one. And even if they do, without reflashing Verizon specific software into the phone most aspects of it wont work.

Shouldn't be a problem getting the phone on Verizon's network. The handy online ESN changer usually works like a charm. I know that some features won't work, but I think with a little work, it may be possible. Who would you suggest I talk with concerning the SPC. Better yet, how can I get my hands on one of these phones? Does Telecom only sell direct, or do they have independent dealers? Thanks.

Overcoming the ESN is only one part of the problem.
The phones have been heavily customised for TNZ and without changing the software to a verizon specific build code you will find most features simply wont work. If you want a voice only device (no text, data, wap) then you will be okay.
If you still want to give it a go Telecom wont sell directly offshore but I'm sure you can purchase a phone from a Dealer via credit card. I think Telecom have a list of dealers on www.telecom.co.nz

Good luck

Actually, I live in rural Southern VA around zip code 23947. CDMA coverage is even spotty around here. No carrier even has 80% coverage in this area. Verizon and USCC are about the best.

From what I understand, GSM coverage in the US is nowhere near as good as it is in Europe (although it's constantly improving) and, apparently, Canada is even worse.

My mate took his 6585 to the sates while he is studying over there, and he has it set up with Verizon, Voice Calls are fine, as are text messages. Wap does not work , something about the gateway.... not sure about the 1XRTT

If you get it unlocked, it should be okay
