Is this a prepay SIM or contract? I think it was just a blooper in their billing systems...

I asked about this a while ago, apparently it was an error somewhere.

The person who replied worked for the company and so wasn't really allowed to give any more information. I guess he's read this thread as well...

I guess they must have fixed the error :(.

Hi I have a alcatel 735 that I 've had for about a month, im using it on prepaid with an old sim card. I've probably used about 2meg and haven been charged yet (from about a month ago. I've had money on my account the whole time. I thought according to this post that they had fixed that problem

Not quite. Seems that billing is still having a problem...

There is still a way of getting "free" GPRS in NZ, nobody I know will confirm or deny it but I believe an APN exists that you won't get billed for. Vodafone have lots of holes in their systems, some they might be aware of and decide aren't worth fixing, others that they're obviously completely unaware of as they still work years after being disconvered.

Is GPRS data charged at the gateway.
What I mean is that could you change the gateway on your phone to a non-Voafone gateway.

Also what program would you use to do this?

So if I ran my own gateway I will still get charged?

there are a few APN that don't seem to be charged ;-) i've got ~$2 on m a prepay sim, and i'm doing 10MB+ a day - no movement in my balance.

couple more questions to do with apn's

1) why do vf need more than 1 access point name, what do they do?
2) why don't vf just turn off the apn's that aren't charging properly?

There's a lot of devices/sofware that i know of that don't let you define the APN... - so one reason i know would be to allow these to use Vodafone's network even though they're prgrammed with another telco in mind.
