iPhone, Samsung... both have NFC readers in them.

But that doesn't really matter. I really want to know if NFC will talk to RFID chips. If I have to go get another phone to do the job then that's what has to happen.

Current iPhone models do not have a NFC reader. If yours have, then it's a fake.

Google search of "can nfc phones read rfid?" revealed that they can. Dependant on the nfc app and the type of rfid tag.

I saw the NFC icon in my S4, confess I just haven't looked closely at the iPhone5.

Given the lack of responses and that you had to google, I'm seeing that people aren't using RFID on phones at present or they'd be posting here with a wealth of info (which was the other thing I was trying to judge).

How did you form that view?

You asked if your phone can support NFC. If it's an Android with NFC support the answer to your question is 'yes'. If it's an iPhone the answer is 'no' since Apple don't support NFC.

You didn't ask what people use NFC for (the applications of which cover a massive range of sectors) so it's not surprising you got a binary answer to a binary question...

NFC is also not simply RFID so you really need to really paraphrase your question a little better also.
