I am trying to find the best technology to send one way bulk sms messages from computer to mobile phones. There are so many companies out there and it is very confusing. Does anyone have any knowledge?

It depends... Bulk SMS as for unsolicited communication to members of the public (a.k.a. spam)?

Good... In this case I recommend Clickatell. They have some great services and prices. You can for example send a list of recipients to a file on their FTP server and the SMS is sent out individually. Or use a web application for this. Or get their own PC application, load the address book and send.

There's a lot  of services apart from clickatell that lets you do this - you just need to think more broadly than SMS- look at what's avilable thru the GPS channel

GPS is a completely different technology. Global Positioning System allows a device to calculate its position on Earth. It's nothing related to SMS.

Apologies meant GPRS - there are many programs you can download onto your mobile - like [removed spam comment]- that allow you to text message using the GPRS or data channel on your mobile - the trick is to make sure you have a data included on your mobile plan- then in effect your text messaging is free as well!

Are you in any way related to this company? Pease disclose any relationship.

Also the OP is really looking for SMS not IM.

For bulk SMS messaging there are SMS providers which provide an HTTP or SMPP interface to send messages.
