Hello,

Does anyone know how to set up the Nokia 6230 for GPRS, WAP, PXT etc on Vodafone NZ?

There's a Vodafone website where you can select your mobile phone model and it'll send you the configuration over the air. You can check if the Nokia 6230 is there yet.

Thanks,

The 6230 is not listed. I contacted Vodafone NZ, but they were not that helpful. I was sent a list of details that I have been attempting to enter - however the menu structure on the 6230 is quite different, and so far nothing has worked!

Cheers,

Thanks mate,

I am currently overseas. I had to replace my phone, so I got this one. Appears to be supported everywhere else, so I guess New Zealand is just a little slow on the uptake. Kind of a shame, how difficult can it be for Vodafone and Nokia to start working with pre production models early on and get the infrastructure behind the products. It is after all a global network and a global market.

Maybe next month...

There are some certification processes going on, but sometimes Nokia releases models around the world in a different schedule. It's worth to give a try to other models from that website, just in case. Should be very similar!

Thanks,

After a lot of trial and error, the settings from the 6800 guide have worked! Nice to be able to use the phone to it's full potential. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! There is a lot packed into this phone. The video stuff all works great. 3GP's created on my Mac with Quicktime, Bluetooth to the phone, no problem. Camera, Voice recorder, file sharing, radio, MP3's, the lot! Best thing is that it's a Nokia and it's nice and small.

Try getting the OTA settings from Nokia site

http://www.nokia-asia.com/nokia/0,,46734,00.html

NB. A Nokia 6230 may not be listed, but if you select a handset that has the same type wap browser then it should work. IE choose settings for a similar handset that uses Wap 2

Tinman!!
I'm having heaps of trouble setting up my 6230 too....
I can browse sites...but not send mms messages or anything like that....
Could you help me out?
What are your multimedia messages settings? Could I copy what you've got there?
I've had the phone since 4 this afternoon...and it's now after 11 and I'm still stumped. The vodafone people tried to help, but it didn't work!

Thanks heaps

It'd be awesome to get this phone going!!

SO yeah....pretty much I figure I should put something here letting any other people who buy a 6230 know what settings they should have!
MAKE SURE Vodafone has your account able to send and recieve PXT etc...probably just tell them the model of the phone and they'll sort that end out (Mine wasn't the whole time I was trying different settings!)

Here we go:
Menu

Messages

Message settings

Multimedia messages

Save sent messages (Yes)

Delivery reports (No)

Scale image down (I was told to put Yes here by some other Vodafone guy...Not sure!)

Default slide timing (00:08)

Allow multimedia reception (In Home Network)

Incoming multimedia messages (Retrieve)

Connection settings

Allow adverts (yes- it's what they say for the 6600 too)

Now go to Connection settings

Active multimedia settings (It will either say nothing here if you haven't tried setting one up, or have the name you can specify in the next menu!)

Edit active multimedia settings (Now press select to go to the next menu)

Settings name (Whatever you want to put, VFNZ PXT?)

Homepage (http://pxt.vodafone.net.nz/pxtsend)

Proxies (enable)

Primary proxy (172.030.038.003 then it asks for port so put 8080)

Secondary proxy (same as above: 172.030.038.003 then it asks for port so put 8080)

Data bearer (GPRS)

Bearer settings (Press select to go to the next menu)

GPRS access point (live.vodafone.com)

Authentication type (Normal)

User name (Don't have any username written)

Password (Don't have any password witten)

Now click the right *back* button to go back to the main display, and maybe turn your phone off and then back on so it starts fresh with the new settings.
It's important to have only these settings in your phone (I've been told) so make sure there's nothing else screwing it up! :)

Now to set up the Wap etc part of the phone:

Menu

Services

Settings

Connection settings

Active service settings (It'll have a name here if you've tried setting it up before, otherwise nothing)

Edit active service settings (Press select to go to the next menu)

Settings name (Put anything you want, I recon incase you have to talk to any customer
services people you should put what they have on other phones which I think is "VFNZ")

Homepage (http://live.vodafone.com)

Proxies (Enable)

Primary proxy (172.030.038.003 then it asks for port so put 8080)

Secondary proxy (same as above: 172.030.038.003 then it asks for port so put 8080)

Data bearer (GPRS)

Bearer settings (Press select to go to the next menu)

GPRS access point (live.vodafone.com)

Authentication type (Normal)

Login type (Automatic)

User name (Have nothing there)

Password (Have nothing there)

Now click back to get back to the main screen and tun your phone off then on again!
:)

Pretty much this post is just to tell you what the settings are on a WORKING 6230 incase you're trying to set up one with no settings currently on it (Vodafone and Nokia both don't have the "over the air" settings available at the moment). If you have any trouble with setting up this phone I would be happy to do anything I can to help because it's easy to answer questions when you have the handset in front of you. Otherwise thanks to Johnr who stepped me through most of it and finally got the whole dam thing working!

:)

Does anyone with this phone have trouble getting photos of the phone and putting them onto the pc using pc suite phone browser. I go into phone browser, click Nokia 6230 and then it says there is an error. Every other connection works fine, just this. And thats the way it says to get the photos off.
Is there any way to fix it or another way to get the photos off the phone and onto the computer?
Cheers
