I just received my data cable for the Audiovox 8900 (better know as a TX95-c in this part of the world) and went to www.curitel.com to get the Hyundai software and it appears to be the expected update. It allows download and upload of images, ringtones, syncronisation with outlook etc.

If you are interrested in getting the cable and you don't want to pay the exorbident Telcom price of $200 (this should be criminal behaviour in my opinion, not good business practice) the Audiovox 8900 and also a Verizon model (sorry can't remember the model No) are the same phone and the cables are only $19.95US (cost me $45NZ including shipping). Note don't buy the ones with the "software bundle" for the 8900, they want about $70US for that, my $19.95 version came with a software CD, I havn't looked at it because all the drivers from Curtiel worked straight away. Note the only place I found it at $19.95 would only ship to USA and Canada, I shipped it to a friend and he posted it from Toronto. However, I did find a few that shipped internationally for $29.95US, that will still only be 30% of Telecom's asking price! I also belive there is an LG model that uses the same cable, slightly different phone, but same chip inside and same cable, that was mentioned at the bitpim site for cabel hunters.

Thanks for the info Peter. There was a Cellect data cable available for about $100, but the software on the included CD was corrupt (apparently) so they were sent back. At the time Curitel had no drivers for the NZ TX95c. Today I was told that the Cellect cables are unavailable until at least some time in July. I guess the reason they’re unavailable is because of the model currently available at the ridiculous price you mentioned, $200. Hard to sell something at $200 when there’s a $100 option next to it on the shelf!
How are you getting on with the cable you have there? Any chance you can post a link to the site you purchased it from?
TIA

Cable works fantastic with new Curtitel software, I have downloaded photos from the camera, uploaded and using new wallpaper, uploaded new phone numbers and ringtones, everthing works perfectly and simply. Only issue was working out the password, the software askes you create a logon ID and password, no problem, then the phone asked for a password to connect! It is the last 4 digits of the phones number.

Here is my purchase http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3093762457&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOAB:US:6 just search on ebay, he just keeps adding new ones, remember he won't ship outside teh US/Canada.

Do a serach on Google for the Audivox 8900 data cable and I am sure you will find a $30 vendor that ships intenationally.

Cheers Peter. Sounds good. I'm going to see if a friend in the USA can grab one for me and send it over. Thanks again for the heads-up. Stu

Looks like this guy is selling them for US$10 and will ship to NZ (Australasia) for $8.

Hi Ben, yes that looks like it. It has some sort of junction box in the middle as illustrated at the $10 ebay site, it looks like the same backing card as well, my CD was just a CD-R, not printed like that one, and I still haven't looked at it yet, probably won't, I should imagine it is some propreitary Audiovox software that is related to their network. I guess the only issue with this method is you don't get the Telecom fax software (though the Audiovox may work), though you would have to have a very good reason to pay $200 for the privilidge of reciveing it. Still if you are willing to pay the stupidly high fees to use the phone as a modem, then you can affford the $200!

Just make sure you are ordering for the 8900 it IS a TX-95c, just branded differently.

Yup, I can confirm that my cable works sweetly! Just plugged it in and am editing contacts on my PC now. Niiiice.

Total cost: US$10 + US$9 P&P. Came to about NZ$33 in total and took just under a week to arrive.

Thanks for the update Ben. The supplier was BargainCell? Are you using the drivers from Curitel or what was included on the CDROM that came with the cable? Cheers, Stu

Yep it was BargainCell. Nice and easy to deal with - they had a 'Checkout' button on the auction and that did all the freight and Paypal stuff.

There was no CD with the cable. I just downloaded the USB drivers and sync software from Curitel and they worked perfectly.

I am also looking at getting one of these data cables for my boss who wants to use it so he can connect to the internet via his hyundai phone. Does that datacable from Bargaincell alow you to use mobile Jetstream, or do you have to have the ridiculously expensive cable from Telecom?

I'm not sure. I never tried it, but I also don't recall seeing any 'modem' options or whatever with the USB software.

Your safest bet would be to go with the Tcom cable (if they say it will do modem connections), but then again, for a grand total of NZ$30ish (the downloads from www.curitel.com/english are free!), why not order a cable and give it a crack?

True, it's not like my money I am spending. Plus I am sure that if we get a data plan, Telecom would have to supply the software for us to connect.

Thanks for that.

The Curitel software does load a modem driver so it should be fine for using the phone to access the internet. I'm not keen on trying because the fees are crazy.

The company is paying for the internet connection so that does not really come into play. PLus I have made the boss aware of the fees that we will incur if we connect via mobile jetstream.
