I don't want to sound paranoid but is it possible for a person to gain access to your smartphone messages. I have a friend who seems to know exactly who I am txting. He has had access to my phone so I was wondering if it is possible for copies of my messages to be redirected without me being aware. Norton malware has detected no issues.
If so how do I stop it.

There's always a possibility. You could try a factory reset, load all your apps again and make sure it uses a PIN or password so it's not left around unlocked.

Absolutely possible. There are apps (maybe in the Play store) that do exactly that. Usually used for snooping on spouses/partners etc. Becoming relatively common according to an article I read recently. Look for any apps you don't know/recognise (they may have misleading names).

Thanks guys. Was starting to feel paranoid but definitely feeling monitored. Will clear my phone of all. May explain why my phone is using battery power more quickly and why when I closed some background apps I got an odd message from him. He's not my partner and I'm not a cheating spouse by the way!
Glad I'm no more paranoid than the next person

I would want to confirm that he has done it or not before resetting the phone. If he has done it then he should get into trouble for doing it. If he hasn't then you avoid besmirching his character.

I have been having power usage problems for a couple of months so resetting the phone was necessary anyway.  I'm sure it will be obvious very quickly if he was monitoring me. He has been using social media sites to say where he was gaining his information but I am not active on the obvious ones so was getting suspicious. No biggie if it is fixed now. Will be less open with phone in future though.

Actually I can see where you are coming from- bit stalkerish if he was monitoring my phone. Hopefully sorted now.

Also worth changing Google or Apple ID password - I'm not sure about Google but certainly if you were using iMessage on an iPhone the messages can get copied to any other device.

I use a simple app which backs up my sms's to my gmail, its honest software nothing dodgy so services like norton's would not pick it up, could he have installed a legit similar app and directed results to his email?
