What a non-geek I have been!

I have had my Sanyo M1 since the day they hit the shelves - one of the benefits of working in a mobile phone shop

I was snapping away happily until yesterday when I went to use my camera, went into options, camera settings and resolution.  There I noticed four choices - Low, Medium, 1.3M and 2M.

No points for guessing which setting mine was on!  (Is  better now...) (Much better)  Plus I still have a huge amount of storage for my photos if I go mental with it...

So, when you get your new mobile phone, check your resolution.  I can take a better photo for my avatar now!!!

LOL!

Hah I remember my SE z600(great phone) only had a .1 mp camera, and it was crappy quality, but to increase quality, you would take the photo, and repeatedly tap the capture button for about 5 seconds untill the screen would go black :-P that would stop the crappy jpg compression ruining the photo, it worked haha was brilliant.

But I find camera phones to be *Puke* when you actualy want to take quality photos with it...I have sent all of 5 MMS messages EVAR!

I only snap shots of my cats and family.  Especially my 15 year old son.  He hates it!  Besides, my husband won't let me loose with his new digital camera and I gave the old one to our daughter.....

Actually Macuser, we had mobile phone shops in aussie and I had the first SE snap on camera.  (Was it the T300 which I still have or my dead T68i with MMS upgrade - wow...)  I got a photo out of it a while back and it was really good.  Probably cos my daughter took the photo!

I just had to step in here.
The photos that come out of the Nokia N 95 are real good.
This coming from a person who uses a Canon DSLR

Interesting. Some time ago I had a look at some N95 photos on Flickr just out of curiosity and I thought that they were very badly over-processed and suffered from severe barrel distortion and unrealistic colours.

I guess there's an element of personal taste in it.

I wont do any processing of them whatsover so you can see the "Native" results

The barrel distortion is certainly there but when properly setup (Turn that horrid sharpness off) it produces very nice shots, pity it';s also such a slow thing to start up taking 7 seconds, Blame the pathetic amount of RAM memory that does not allow more than one service active at a time meaning it has to start every application from scratch.

The old snap on Ericsson cameras produce really nice pictures, mainly because the actual camera sensor modules were huge inside. Mobile phone cameras vary an awful lot, the M1 has one of the best, the 8400 has one of the worst.

Aha!  That's really interesting...  One never knows what a picture is actually going to be like unless it is 'printed'.  Only thing wrong with the old sony-ericsson is that I can only fit about one photo onto the old phone now before it's full!  (Plus one of the snap on cameras is dead...)  I might even start a new thread about people coming into the store wanting me to get their photos out of their dead phones...  Plus I might mention that with some of the Sanyos you have to send from the camera, and once they are deleted from the camera I don't know of any way of getting them out, eg my old sanyo 6600.  Any ideas?

Try BitPIM, it's freeware.

After setting up the system, Read the "wallpapers" and "ringtones"from the handset but some will work, some will not as it's just random. The images are fixed at 320 x 240 also.

for the few you just "cannot get" out of the "phone", you can "assign as wallpaper on the handset" then do the Bitpim trick again.

Thanks, I think I will just refer customers to this site, as I gave my 6600 back to the boss when he gave me the M1!  Plus I am not allowed to download software at work, nor am I allowed to use the cables for anything but copying contact lists into the customers' new phones...

Depends when you last looked as well, they have improved the camera with each firmware iteration. The current firmware was rated as being better than the latest 5mp Sony Ericson Cybershot-branded cellphone, so that should give you an idea of how good it is.
