Hi,

This will be my first post in this forum, hopefully someone can help with a problem that I'm having.
My Nokia N80 needs to be recharged every night even though it will mostly in stand by mode throughout the day, and somehow I think this is related to the 3G network that we have here.
I recently went overseas to Indonesia where 3G is available but still optional, and I got myself a prepaid SIM card from a provider that doesn't have 3G capability (it offers the best deal at the  time and I don't use the 3G features normally anyway). Strangely enough the battery life seems to expand to 2 1/2 days (3 days at best) which is pretty normal for newer mobile phone models, and that brings me to the conclusion that it's the 3G network that's draining the battery life of my N80 here in NZ.
Would anyone know how to turn off the 3G network on the N80? I sppose if this is not possible then I will probably need to switch models, as unfortunately I will need to use my mobile more and more for work.

Cheers,

3G is a huge drain on battery life - the network coverage here is too poor and the continuous searching for signal is what drains the battery.

I don't know about the N80 specifically, but I run my N95 with 3G off almost all the time - to do that in the N95 go to Tools, Settings, Phone, Network and select GSM. I would imagine that the N80 uses a similar path if it has the option to select what mode it runs in.
