If I unlock an overseas CDMA phone (Sprint, Verzion etc) and give them the ESN, will they connect it? If they don't is it because im getting them cheaper or because the physically cant connect it? I know the NAM programming etc and I can get the codes.

Can I do this?

No. Imported phones can't be connected to the Telecom NZ network.

This is primarily due to the differences in phone firmware between CDMA networks.

Pretty much. And it's not something Telecom created, it's part of the standard. Sprint won't connect a phone from Verizon Wireless, ad Verizon Wireless won't connect a Telecom phone, and so on.
