Not that I know much about this and so it could have already happened.....  

I have logged in to get my geek news update and read the news item about HP embedding CDMA cards into note books followed by Telstra shutting down the CDMA network.  Given that HP is the biggest notebook seller (I am not sure if this is in business sales or all sales) it all seems a little odd to me....

And hence the opportunity for a "world" notebook that will roam both GSM & CDMA....

Those HP notebooks may show up in New Zealand - but they are mostly aimed at the U.S. market. I think having a dual mode machine is too costly in terms of manufacture and certification.

I agree about the price to bring a dual mode to market....
