Hi all,

I'm thinking of a new phone and want to cut the cord tying me to Apple. Android...mmmm....maybe. This Ubuntu phone has me wondering. I use this OS as my primary anyway, so convergence would be great. 330 NZD delivered in 2 weeks. Whatsmyduty.org.nz says $0 due.

From the specs:
Bands supported: GSM (850, 900, 1800 and 1900) and UMTS (900, 2100)

From a vodafone forum posting:
2G - 900/ 1800 MHz GSM, GPRS
3G - 900/ 2100 MHz UMTS, HSPA, HSPA+, DC-HSPA+
4G - 1800 MHz LTE

So I should get 4G, right?

What's your thoughts? Has anyone bought one? If so, how would you rate this phone?

Nice looking phone, specs look OK too. I don't know about them otherwise.

From looking at the specs on their website it doesn't look like it does 4G LTE

Had you considered a Jolla? https://jolla.com/jolla/ They do 4G LTE . They run Sailfish OS a development of Meego and can run Android Apps.

Unfortunately for me it looks like Jolla only support VF freq bands and not Spark.

I was considering a Ubuntu phone too recently but realized I'd have to get it from overseas

Bear in mind the number of apps is very limited so if you have some apps you need on current handset check you can get the same outcome on the Ubuntu phone

Let me know how you get on

That'll typically work in urban areas, but rural tends to be 700 MHz. Check your provider's coverage map for exceptions though, for example Spark has no 1800 MHz in Tauranga.

Edit: I misread. If the specs don't list 4G support then you won't get 4G.
