Tried to install on a Vaio TZ series laptop but no go - Vodafone are also not able to get a vodem going on the same laptop (Vista 32bit).

Is it just me or is the vodafone connect software a bit flakey when it comes to installation? I know I had to reinstall a number of times to get it going on my HP laptop.

VMC is a dogs breakfast of an application
the old version that came with my E618 was better than the current/new version, don't blame yourself if it disables your Windows' Wireless Networking, kills kittens or loads up 2girls1cup at work

VMC doesn't work 'properly' with Vista.  If you install it you can use your datacard but it will kill all your other connections - wireless, ethernet, etc.  The only fix is to uninstall VMC to get these working again.  If you can get through to a decent support guy he will confirm but up until then Vodafone will deny any problems.

They don't even know what works or not. For example this page says the VMC doesn't support the XU870 on Windows Vista. But points to the old VMC 9.1.2.

I installed VMC 9.1.2 yesterday after rebuilding my laptop. It works ok, but it does have some problems. I might download 9.2 to see if it fixes the problems.

Why did I install VMC 9.1.2? Because I am a Vodafone NZ customer and I went to the Vodafone NZ website to download the software for my card and it only had 9.1.2, no mention of 9.2

Why can't Vodafone do it right?

Where exactly?

If I browse by OS - Windows Vista lists VMC 9.0 and says XU870 is not supported.

If I browse by hardware - Novatel XU870 lists German only and VMC 6.0 released in 2005!

Is there a way to have this thing right for once?

I have been using the latest software for quite awhile now but it has the same issues.  Datacard works but the if you then try and go back to a cable connection (after removing datacard) the computer won't acquire an IP address. As soon as you uninstall VMC software the connection is successful - doesn't even require reboot to show this.  You can use the datacard as a modem with no problems, just not via VMC.  This only happens on Vista.  I have had the same issue on 3 computers now - Vaio, Tecra and HP.

The software version I am using - Version: 9.1.2.5766

Mauricio to get the latest software go to the device page.

Your issue of different info on different pages is very common through the site.  I have, on many occasions, sent emails to the webmaster advising of such and listing the incorrect pages.  On a rare ocassion I get a reply, but so far I have not got them to correct the page!!!

This is all good stuff guys. I have a client that probably thinks I dont know what I'm doing because I couldnt get this going. She also took the laptop in to a Vodafone store and they couldnt get it to work either - but they told her it must be something that I have done to the laptop. They also tried a Vodem and couldnt get that to go either and told the client that there was a problem with her USB ports - brand new Viao and the USB mouse and portable USB HDD both work! The guy from VF then called me and told me he had never heard of any issues with the software and he had installed it hundreds of times without issue.

Personlly I have had nothing but problems with the VF software whenever I have used it - took 3 install attempts and a reinstall of WiFi drivers to get it going on my work HP laptop with XP Pro.

Telecom cards and software just work. Everytime without fail and the software is simple to use and install. Its not rocket science Vodafone!
