If i brought a cellphone from USA would I be able to connect it up to the telecom network.I'm asking as i'm going over there in a few months and you get more for your money with there phone over there.

Nope. You can try and get it TelePermitted but it isn't worth the route to get a "cheap" phone from there and subject to pricey network test and certified for TelePermit and get connected. You'd better off just get the phone here, especially true for CDMA. As each CDMA phone has to be customised to the local network.

I don't think you would even get a telepermit. There are very strict rules. The testing is a very long process which sometimes would cost a lot more than the phone itself.

Before you say this is how bad Telecom is, etc, here is the explanation: every phone is heavily customised to a network. Sprint phones have features that only work on Sprint. Same for Verizon phones. Bringing a phone here would cause lots of problems.

In theory as Sprint is Telecom NZs technolgy partner and thay piggyback on Sprints purchase agreements I suspect that a Sprint sorced fone would work on the TCNZ CDMA network..

Yes, it could even work. But they come with lots of custom applications, and if anyone click on and starts having WAP data traffic outside Telecom's network because that's what the Sprint firmware does, then I presume they wouldn't like the bill at the end of the month.

Your theory doesn't work

Telecom have a database of all handsets that they import, configure, and sell (or allow to be sold - a la APT's data devices etc).

Without your ESN on that list, you are NOT going to get your phone connected.

Telecom will not add phones to that list without PTC testing and approval occurring (time consuming and expensive).
