Hmmm. Just heard something about a Telecom New Zealand CDMA EVDO test cell site here in Wellington. Apparently they're doing some CDMA EVDO performance tests and current conditions allowed for a 10MB file to be downloaded in 90 seconds.

I'm sure going to try this out...

Hmmm. I trust my source. Perhaps you're sitting even closer to the cell site?

So this is just with an existing CDMA handset? Or does EV-DO need new hardware?

EVDO requires new hardware.

If you do the maths !!!!

a 10 meg files is 10240000 bytes which is 81920000 bits.

Now Divided 81920000 bits with 2457000 bits (EVDO max speed) you get 33.34 secs

Now add some overheads and retransmissions and a bit of time to ramp up , then you would see that 50 secs to download 10Meg is achievable

You will most probably find it's in courtney place. They do most of the testing there.

Find a 3G fone and try and scam telecom into connecting it.

Apparently the HTC "Falcon" PDA is EVDO capable., beg, borrow, steal one and find out! we'd be glad to know. I remember hacking into GPRS before it's release time (cell bar reject) and having a go. what's really strange is that I used to get easily, 40-42Kbps, not anymore!!!!! (and it was free!)

Must be a little too busy with kiddies on Vodafone LIVE!

Sorry

You will not be able to connected the Falcon unless TNZ do a Software change on the device.

Also the connecting any old 3g phone will not work as there are 2 many secret setting that you will never find out

it's amazing what can be extracted from ROM dumps. ;-)
especially when most phones run the same Baseband chip (the MSM radioOne 6x, 7x)
