Hey all, as you probably know (if you've read any thread in this board) i'm after a K700. I recently popped into DSE and mike (i think it was you) was right its not too limiting (the customization) however...

Taking into consideration...

The bugs that have been reported (and unlikelyness of firmware updates from VF)
The fact that lots of stores here are expensive (and vodafone act as a middleman increasing the price even more)
And finally the fact that i'm going to Australia in September.

... i think i have decided to try to get one over there. As the title says im heading to Brisbane and im after an unbranded K700.

If anyone knows any good stores I can contact please let me know.

Expansys looked good but the following put me off:

AU$67 for postage to NZ!!!!
Instead of 10% Oz interest you pay 12.5% NZ interest once it gets in the country.

^^ This would mean it would work out to more than the NZ price :(

Can anyone comment on the possiblility of having Expansys mail the phone to my hotel and then claiming the tax back when i leave (thus solving both problems). This would probably save me about NZ$180 :D

Should set up a business - who wants one? :P

By "interest" you mean GST, I presume?

Australian GST law says that you have to spend more than AU$300 on the same store to be eligible to claim the GST back when leaving the country. You have to present the products you're taking with you, so make sure you have the phone in your backpack. They'll pay as a credit to a credit card, or send a cheque to your home address later.

I'd still say buy one from vodafone, I'm sure they'll have software updates too and it will be quicker than sending it off overseas to get updated. Though I've read with an optional cradle and windows you might be able to update the phone yourself.

Still I'd rather have the New Zealand warranty and vodafone to moan to if anything doesn't work right. If you buy your phone overseas you can't expect any help or support from vodafone.

Yeah except cradle would make saving the $180 pointless.

But i've talked to them and they don't have any problem with it. Vodafone warranty = sending it to the service center and letting them deal with it. Exactly the same as if i have a problem with the one from OZ :D.

I would expect somewhere like first mobile would be able to do non VF updates as well... anyone?
