No doubt this has been asked before, but which do you prefer - IOS or Android?

Asking as I am considering buying either an iPad Air 2 or a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2

I use both IOS and Android on a day to day basis and don't have a personal favourite between each...

So am asking what features of either OS/Device do you like? And what don't you like?

No preference, but iPads seem to have the OS on them updated and Android tablets do not.

Agreed bought a Samsung tab pro which is only a couple of years old still on 4.4 which is now to old for some new apps, also have an old iPad 4 which is much older and still going strong running the latest iOS and can get almost any app

I would wait a little while as Apple are expected to release new iPads soon. The iPad is the better choice for tablets imo as they have proper iPad apps. The air2 is getting old so when the new versions are released there should be better options in the cheaper range.

I can't speak for tablets, because so far I consider them to be the least useful computing invention in the history of mankind.

In terms of phones, I used iPhones right up to the 7 then switched to an Android (Sony XZ).

There's nothing significantly different really. Just the way that things are done rather than what can or cannot be done. I prefer iOS for some things and Android for others if I am honest.

Can depend on what system you have invested in. For example if you have loads of iOS apps, Apple TV etc, then for consistency in operation and something that 'just works' together I would go for an iPad. I can't say I have seen much hardware or software advances in Android for quite some time now? Do they even have a modern spec tablet?

I recommend iPad if people want a tablet. However I have an Android tablet. It's three years old and runs the latest version of Android. But I'm a geek.

My biggest issue with iOS is the lockdown to iTunes - I love WP/Android's way handling files - plug in, yes, I want to transfer a MP3/WAV/AVI/MPG/whatever to my phone storage, unplug, done.

Thankfully there are 3rd party apps out there to let you handle file transfer easily without iTunes, but shouldnt need an app to do it.

Android has it quirks etc as well though.

For a geek, I'd go Android, for non-geeks, iOS.

Why do you need iTunes?

I've never plugged our two iPads into a computer, let alone iTunes.

On the odd occasion you might need it for recovery but in general you are right, it is no longer required.

iOS if you're into the Apple ecosystem or you are a basic use with few options for technical support. I always feel restricted when using Apple gear.

Android for anything else but we only buy brands with a record of providing the next major Android upgrade. That means we'll buy Sony (another plus has traditionally been waterproof/dustproof phones) but we don't buy Samsung.

We also use Windows 10 Mobile which is relatively simple but fails to have enough apps to compete properly with iOS and Android.
