Hi, I need some help...

I have NOKIA 6610i... So I bought a data cable for it. It is not original NOKIA s cable, it is Usb-serial data cable, Silbell, China...With cable I got CD with drivers (Prolific, PL2303).
WinXP recognized my cable, but PCSuite can t find, see, my NOKIA...Like it is not connected...

Has anyone any idea how to solve my problem? I would be very happy...;)

Tnx!

Most have a USB-Serial adapter built into the cable which sets up a virtual COM5 usually.

The "data" cable is then attached to this virtual "serial port" which is what the software will recognise.

You have to install two sets of drivers, one to setup the "USB-SERIAL Adaptor" and the one to insatll the actual data cable itself which is "attached" to that serial port you just installed.

Make sure it's DKU-5 not DKU-3 also. this might cause a problem even though they look the same.

Have a play. they can be ficnicky to get to work.

if you get really lost, for $35, someone was selling DKU-5 clones on Trademe site. it worked perfectly on mine.

Let me know how you get on. Anton

Warning to all who are looking at Cheap chinese cables DKU-5

These cheap chinese data cables are CR4P. I bought one and failure has met me early.
Along with the useless performance/compatibility with everything (most APPS cannot detect the cable at all. it has now stopped altogether. The picture at:

I proceeded to cut open this $35 nasty to see what secrets lies inside.. It was embedded is this plastic resin and obviously the forces excerted by the bending have destroyed the circuit board nice and proper. It now detects as a "problem unknown malfunctioned" device

Off to buy a REAL nokia one like the trouble free one for my 6310i

this cable was trouble free with my 2280 etc on the pc suite 4.
they are known to have serious problems on Nokia pc suite 5

Hey man, despite it breaking, how did you get the freaking thing to work in the first place!?

I've got one of the $35 clone cables. It all sets up fine, and shows up as a COM4 port in device manager. When I plug it into the phone (a 6100) the phone reports "Data accessory Connected" all OK, but PC Suite just will not see the phone, no matter how hard I try.

I can select the com port in connection manager, but once again, all the PC Suite apps either do nothing, or report "no phone connected" type messages.

WinXP SP2 if it helps, and I'm a software developer, so yes, I have uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted, whatever...

Any tips?

I have tried Nokias DKU-5 USB to serial cable, a clone using a Prolific USB to serial driver, another from APT in the NZ, a USB Infrared dongle and a laptops IrDa, all fine.

You need to check your cable is compatible.

You must have administrative rights, you must install the drivers first, sometimes you have to go into Device Manager in XP to force Scan for New Hardware.

The cable has had COM ports 4 sometimes, 5 and 16 at others. It pays to check Device Manager if unsure.

Then and only then should you install the correct version of Nokia PC Suite for your specific phone.

Nokia PC Suite 6.4 is now out and covers the 2280, 3586i, 6100 amd 6585.

Open the Connection Manager, select Serial (yes, even though you are using USB), if the phone doesn't get detected, click Advanced, ,make sure the correct COM port is selected).

I have a ripoff DKU-5 that uses a Texas Intruments USB<->serial chipset, I had to download the Virtual Com Port software from TI and then select "serial cable" in the nokia pc suite - works a treat.

Phone: 2280 (CDMA)
