G'day.

I have just come back to New Zealand from a holiday in Australia. On my travels I purchased a Nokia 6220 which is a really fantastic phone.

I have managed to get the GPRS/PXT etc working great, no problems there. I am however having a lot of trouble getting the email to work. For some reason I'm finding that the phone can't establish a connection with the mail server. Several mail servers have been tried without luck.

I'm guessing it is just a proxy server setting or something, but it has me stumped.

Has anyone else got one of these handsets and have got the email working? If so, it would be great to hear from you.

Is this a Xtra e-mail account? Xtra blocks any POP3 access if not from their own network.

Nope, the account I'm trying to get working is actually for a mail server that I administor myself so "popping" (as Xtra referer to it as) is allowed regardless of the connection.

I have also tried sending an email via the smtp.vodafone.net.nz but this doesn't work either.

The proxy server I am using for the internet is 172.030.038.003:8080. Is it possible that this particular proxy only allows HTTP traffic and not POP3 and SMTP? If so, does anyone know of a Vodafone proxy server that will allow me to use the POP3 and SMTP?

If you are using the correct APN on the Vodafone network you shouldn't need any proxy setup on your handset. They have an APN for WAP and one for Internet access.

Check Wireless Vodafone for some configuration information if needed.

Thanks for the info.

Have not been able to get any info from the Vodafone website for this phone. I used the information for the 6230 to get the GPRS and PXT working but still no luck with the email.

Anyone else have any ideas?
