Motormouth is cheaper for calls & data than Telecoms plan.

VOICE:
Vodafone's Pre Pay plans (all)
Minimum call charge is one minute. After the first minute calls are rounded
TO THE NEAREST SECOND
A peak time 027 call for 1:01 will cost $1.41 <<<<< Quite a bit cheaper.

Telecoms' plans Prepaid plans (all)
Minimum call charge is one minute. After the first minute calls are rounded
UP TO THE NEAREST MINUTE
A peak time 021 call for 1:01 will cost $2.78 <<<<< Ouch

LANDLINES:

Testraclear landline numbers will be $0.49 on Vodafone
But Telecom will charge you $1.39 <<<<

DATA:
Vodafone charge just CSD data rates for internet 087.
Or you may call
+6421 700 747 and use their own ISP.

15c first 30 seconds peak
10c first 30 seconds off peak

39c per min peak
30c per min off peak
all charged per second after the first 30 seconds!

Yes, Telecom will charge you $1.39

WAP:
Vodafone charge 10c Per 10KB, Prices can come down more on a data plan (on account)
Telecom charge 50c Per 10KB, nuff said. 4 times more

Special Numbers:

Difficult to pin down. Answer given was "normal airtime rate" so assume $1.39 anytime

087 is CSD rates as above.

Telecom charge $1.39 for all the above apart from 123, 120, 126, 128 which are free and 083210 which is 20c per call.

We actually want to know what Vodafone will charge to call the special data numbers mainly. It might be a real cost saving for those people who dial in remotely from mobiles.

Telecom gave me one answer over 3 phone calls. They were totally confident of the prices.

Vodafone on the other hand, well....... Vodafone gave me a different answer each time.

The only credit goes to the subcontracted company who handles the emails.
while an incomplete answer, They did detail something that 777 was unable to, That 087 calls were standard Data rates.

Shame, GSM is such a great network, The service used to be superb! I wonder what happened? maybe you can look into it if "you work for them"

Enjoy your Pizza!!!!!

Wap browsing through the menu's on Telecom is free until you actually use a service .i.e read a news article, lotto/sport result etc (all indicated by a * in the link and normally 35c per article). Ringtones/wallpapers/games etc are priced depending on the quality & provider and Telecom's contract with that provider. There is no extra data charge using those services.

A per data charge only occurs if you browse offsite, i.e outside the standard Telecom wap menu. This charge is equated at 5c per kb, not 50c per 10 kb. And that would make it 5 times more per 10kb, not 4.

browsing the Xtra menu is supposed to be "free" but I just setup my email and got charged 7c for each page I loaded to enter my passwords etc, this is "supposed" to be free until I see a "*" for 35c.

The Ringtones/games are well priced, the rest is an exorbidant price compared to competing services.

This of course is why they charge the high "outside xtra" charges they do.

You should give *123 a call then. It sounds like there's something funny there.

You should only be charged for Composing, reading, replying or forwarding an email. All these options are marked with an * when you go through the menu's.

Setting up should have no charges if you are using the wap Xtra Email service.(option 2, then option 1 from the main wap menu).

Who cares about CSD. If you are using Circuit Data you may as well light your Kerosine lamp and crank up the gramophone. What a wally!

BTW - CSD is 49 cents p/minute on Telecom. Don't know where you got $1.39 from? It must have been on that 12,000 year old cave drawing....

If Telecom do charge $1.39 per min to TelstraClear landline numbers (and I don't douht your research) then maybe somebody at Telecom needs to fix either their billing system or website because the terms and conditions of Mates Rates says the following

*Mates' Rates 49 cents per minute rate applies to National calls to 027 and 025 mobile numbers and landline numbers in New Zealand.

I also think your reply is a little harsh johnr, you may work for Vodafone and be defending them but the simple fact is nobody at their call centre has been able to give an answer as to what CSD costs were for Motormouth. I have an server hooked up to a phone that acts as a 2 way SMS gateway and also sends out messages to Telecom paging. The PC is freestanding and the best way of doing this is to dial out to the Telecom TAP gateway. At present I pay 89c using prepay, if I could have paid 49c I would have switched to motormouth.

Yes, GRPS/1RXTT is much better, we all agree. I use Woosh for all my internet, I'm hardly in a "Cave"

CSD does still have it's uses, it's a simple dial up and connect connection and works with my own dial in server at home or for example, the paging gateway. Try that securely on GRPS without paying through the nose!

CSD is always there, it's a robust, proven and reliable network. I have a 14.4 (little dynalink thing) modem with a 9v battery for my QTEK, team it up with FREEnet's 200 min and get a service for nothing!

Nope not the cave drawing, It's your 123 representatives.

I do secure stuff over GPRS all the time, I don't pay thru the nose at all.

The first is obviously SSH, but another good tool I use is Zebedee: http://www.winton.org.uk/zebedee/

It's great for being able to whizz files around etc without having to worry (too much) about security.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

OOOHHHH HYPERFIBRE!
