I've download the firmware but it fails at 5%

Has any successfully upgraded without changing the boot loader or rooting?

Have you tried a hard reset before trying to install the update?

Thank you for the reply. Do you mean reset to Factory Defaults ?

I'd rather not do that and have never had to before on other handsets. Seems I'm not the only person to have this issue based on Internet searches. No answer yet so far

A complete wipe of the handset, I am quite confident once this is done the update should install

Do a backup of the handset data before hand

I tried a few times last year, but like you had no luck. I thought I'd bricked the phone when one of the attempts went wrong, but luckily someone here on GZ forwarded me a link to the original NZ (Spark?) Android download.

Which version did you try with? When I looked earlier on this year there didn't seem to be a version that was fully alligned with the NZ-sold model, so I wasn't too shocked when the versions I tried didn't work. Let me know if you do manage to get it upgraded!

I've since given up, both upgrading the phone and indeed using it, having finally got sick of the terrible BT and other issues, so bought a OnePlus 6 - now my son uses it for podcasts and music, so it works fine for him...

TQ also for the reply

There is an official Huawei firmware for Mate 8 Nougat for the AP region but it is beta with no newer release, I suspect because it is beta it has not been released for OTA upgrade? (I'll find the link tonight and send if you want to try)

I got in touch with Huawei and they are looking into it for me

I was trying update using stock loader. I suspect if I install a different boot loader e.g. TWRP I will be able to upgrade but I'd rather exhaust the stock method first
