Hey All,
I have been hearing a few bits a pieces about CDMA smart phones, apart from the Harrier what else is in the pipeline? I have been told by someone in Telecom that The Treo 650 is being looked at, as well as a Blackberry??. He said both of these are in with sprint and might be on sale in New Zealand with Telecom. Anyone got anything on this??

He also went on to say that Sanyo will have a EV-DO handset for the local market, and we might see a bluetooth handset this side of xmas.. hahaha... Comments??

This could be wrong, I have seen nothing. Just want to find out!

Cheers

I know Vodafone is looking at the Treo 650. Also on all new i-mate models launched last week.

On the CDMA front, Telecom NZ is working on the Harrier, but some stuff may happen in this area. Not sure about the Treo 650, since they talked about the Treo 600, but that did not happen. I know Sprint is launching a Windows Mobile Smartphone device, but haven't heard any confirmation that TNZ would launch it here - don't hold your breath waiting for this one yet...

Sprint and Telecom have a relationship that allows Telecom to do quick uptakes of phones that are released by sprint. However, there are other complicating factors. Even the Harrier has it's own challenges in coming to market...

If it comes out on Sprints network, it MAY come out here. If something is announced geekzone will have coverage on it... Until then, nothing is official and everything is just a rumour.

But Oh how I wish Telecom would release a Smartphone!

The Falcon is the current model. It's a CDMA (EVDO enabled with a radio software upgrade). The Harrier is similar, with a slider keyboard. Not in the market yet, but Telecom has been testing it...

The Falcon is the same as the Audiovox PPC 5050 in Canada. It's also the codename used by HTC when developing the device - Telecom New Zealand does not change the names. This model is CDMA 1xRTT.

The Harrier is the same as the Audiovox XV6600. It's a CDMA EV-DO model.

The Treo 650 is a CDMA 1xRTT only (with a GPRS version coming out sometime soon).

Nope. The Audiovox PPC6601 was launched after the Harrier but it's exactly the same hardware and OS. It's just another brand stamped on it.
