Went and had a look at the tx115c, nice phone, all the features i wanted but the camera just doesn't make the grade. The range of phones at telecom (especially clamshells) stinks at the moment. Why they didn't bring in the tx120c as an option to the 115c beats me. Same but with 1.3 mega pix camera. They didn't even know if you could access the phonebook while on a call (phone is useless if you cannot and some don't).

Guess I'll just have to look at 021 or keep waiting (getting sick of that)

I'm a tradesman/project manager so clamshell is a must, my phone carries all my contacts aswell.

Does anyone know if there is a:
Clamshell
1.0 megapix/flash
500 plus slot phonebook
SMS
Speakerphone

Their is plenty out there i.e. Sanyo 8200, Hyundai tx120c, C'mon Telecom!!

Anyone heard any wispers of any new arrivals

It's interesting that the Sanyo and Sprint web sites no longer show the 8100. They only show the 8200.

How reliable is the rumour about more 8100 stock due in December? Is this end of line stock, or is it possible that Telecom may offer us the 8200 instead?

The 8100 is for prepay only now, I looked at one 2 days ago. No one in the retail shops has any word on what phones are coming!! Telecom doesn't tell them whats in testing etc

I sent my above post directly to Telecom. I thought be up front if you have a moan do it direct. So off it went with some added txt but as posted here. Got a reply saying they are processing and will reply in 24 hrs. I'll have to ask b4 posting their reply but lets wait and see.

The damn plan I want is only open till xmas and their phone selection is rubbish so am getting ready to go 021. Hope vodafone have something but as yet haven't looked. Don't want to have to reprint my business cards!!

Been with Telecom since the old bricks pity they simply can't have a decent selection of phones. I don't want the best but when you sign up for two years you want the technology that will at least get you through some of that time. Not the rubbish no one else in the world wants. Especially when the cell phone is such a large tool of the work day.

Anyway lets see how they handle this eh!!

If you're able to publish Telecom's reply, I'd be really interested to see it.

What do you mean when you say the 8100 is only available as a prepaid? Can you not purchase one of these prepaid units and switch them over to a plan, or do an ESN change with your existing Telecom account?

Anyway, as far as handset availability goes, I agree with you 100%. Whatever the technical merits of CDMA (and, rest assured, I don't want to kick off that debate again), the lack of decent handsets is proof enough that choosing CDMA over GSM was a big mistake.

Telecom's intranet has a section dedicated to CDMA handsets in PTC. Since I no longer work for Telecom, I no longer have access to it, but there are plenty of insiders on this message board and I've no doubt that they'll keep us informed.

Re the 8100
I was in a telecom shop in Manukau, Auckland looking at the tx115c which had just arrived. She even had to go behind the counter and get it out of the box and during our chat I asked about the 8100 and if they were getting the 8200 in. The comment was that I couldn't have the 8100 now as it was only avalable if i went prepay and she knew nothing about the avalability of the 8200. I have been out of contract for some time and (I think?) and was going to sign up on the builders plan for two years to get the phone discount offer, that is if I can find a suitable phone that will be fairly current for at least 6 mths to a year. Hence the reason for the above spec as I will be locked in for 2 years!!

I would have walked out with the 115 if the camera had of been ok. After surfing the web I new that there are good phones out there as I had put off the purchase ( a couple of months ago) of the 8100 when I discovered that sanyo 's web site was not even listing it, it was listing the 8200 as the current phone. And the 8200 had so many more features. I have since dicovered the Hyundai 120c aswell. Telecom just has not done its testing or marketing well enough. Hence the reason for the growth of 021 I suppose. They where saying the 8100 was out of stock because of the rush on them, when it was not even the current model from Sanyo. If they had have got off there butts and used the nexy model as a replacement (the 8200) we'd all be happy campers.

Fancy ringtones etc arn't the issue, function is!
Just want a phone that has:
A clamshell design to protect the keys and screen over the life of the contract/phone
A decent phonebook that you can access when on a call.
Take a picture I can print (6"x4")and/or send to granny or the engineer etc (1 mega or so)
Send txt and pics
Has Voice dial and vibrate alert ( I use qhick chat alot " very very good" 1000% better than txt)

Not to much to ask considering what is available out there!!

Raving now got to get off. c ya all

Sorry for the typo! I meant "quick chat".

Blimming great!

Voice dial, quick chat, leave 15sec voice message, all for 20cents.

Beats txting hands down! And you can do it at 100k on the motorway without taking your eyes off the road! Twice the message, 1/4 the time!
Can't understand why Telecom don't push it?? But thats another thread!!

C ya

I know... I am the person who wrote the Tech Spec and parts of Quick Chat. Very cool service, and there are lots of possibilities with voice services.

I don't know why Telecom don't promote Quick chat. Vodafone I don't think have it, its same cost as txt. Jeepers even now I can think of some great TV ads for the service.

Secondly I have got to eat humble pie! I have been mentioning the Sanyo 8200. I have finally found th proper specs and it has a 310,000 or .3 pixel camera same as the 115c. So it is much the same as the hyundai 115c (although on the Hyundai website they don't have full specs).
I did hear a wisper they where testing the Kyocera Koi. Nice features! but the design (Swivel hinge at the top) leaves the screen exposed to be scratched and in my job that is a big minus.

Thirdly got a nice reply from the National manager of customer Services at Telecom, it was marked confidential, but I'm sure they won't mind this compliment. It said their Mobile manager was out of the office today and would look into my query when he was back.

Excellent response Telecom!

Surly there must be some good phones coming with the 3g network getting started etc

Had a look at the specs of Hyundai tx115c, isn't that pretty much the same as tx95c?
Only slight differences like camera flash and exterior design. Doesn't seem to be too different from its big brother.

Look out for the Sanyo 7400, ruggedized clamshell with video and camera - not sure on resolution though.
Kyocera Koi/KX2 doesnt look too bad but as you say the screen is left exposed, it is a 1.2MP camera though. The KX1 or Kyocera SoHo is also in testing apparantly, its another clamshell but no camera.

Any ETA on these? I want to get something before the end of the year and, if the Sanyo 8100/8200 doesn't make a comeback in December then it's probably going to have to be the Samsung N391 or Nokia 3205. I'm guessing that regardless of what I buy, it'll be worth waiting for the predicted pre-Christmas bargains.

Hey like the look of the Sanyo 7400. Surely the specs have gotta be somewhere around the Koi if its going to compeat with it. Read some forum reviews on the 8100 and they where 99% very good so Sanyo seem to have good build quality in their phones. The only repetitive commnet was the ringer speaker distorted at higher volumns.

Very keen to see some more specs on the 7400. They won't need the 8200 if they are jumping to this and it is priced reasonably.

Great feedback keep it coming!! At least this gossip gives us some hope for the future!

Voice is amazing compared to WAP and TXT in the busy world.

Telecom released this amazing service called Chatmail (later called wordup)

It was a voice recognition system that "read" emails and allowed you to send a voicemail type reply as a .WAV file back to the sender!!!
It supported all the major non-telecom ISP's and let people customize it anyway they really wanted!. A far cry from their obssesion and limitations to Xtra now. They cut it off with thier usual "30 days notice as 027 has wap so why not phone 123 and buy a new phone you don't need"

I used to use it in my carphone and "listen" to my emails. I could also dictate to it and send the voice message to my email!!!! I gave it to a blind friend of mine. She was over the moon and it gave her Email access and was her world.

Another gem was the fantastic "Pulsate" youth brand which offered free email, Free WEB TXT, and many other really cool ideas. Sadly squashed by the commecialisim of "Xtra" and "boost".

Quckchat is amazing compared to tap tapping a TXT., my only complaint, 15 seconds is too short, should have been 20 seconds. it also had a few handy secrets which were discovered and fixed.

Phylip,
How do you find the text input? It is responsive enough to keep up with you? Does it default to predictive (T9) mode when you compose a message?
