Anyone know of a not too lengthy (and not too deep) overview of modern phone data transmission and reception technology?

I would guess that current technology would not be possible without a high level of IC processing.

Where do RF techniques and DSP begin/end or overlap?

How does the receiver dredge up low levels of RF and sync up broadband or spread spectrum transmission?

I guess more questions will come up as I dig into this topic :-)
