We had a TX115 through the workshop yesterday for testing. The other tech here's tested it with the TX95c cable and confirmed it works. The Sync software from the TX95c won't recognise the TX115 though. So you'll only be able to do data in the meantime.

Our part code for the cable is DAT-USB-TX95C with RRP - $179+GST

But it's worth ringing a Telecom store and seeing what price they give you. The TX95c cable I believe is still on promo for some of the corporates, but don't quote me on that.

Our ones will. :) As for others there's a pretty good chance, but we only sell ours of course. Anything else you take the punt on it working.

i would buy yours, but i have alot of other things id rather spend 179 dollars on, i assume that you only mark it up a little and the makers of them must sell them at a high price.

anyway thanks for the information, its was very helpful

Theres alot of costs involved, but something along those lines. There's been a few good threads over the last few months that highlight the costs of selling them commercially. But see how you go.

--- I dont work for APT ---

I have extensive experience in using and setting up data cables for 027, and in my experience, have had far less trouble with APT cables than the genuine ones.

Also Telecoms Wireless Data Helpdesk guys all recommend APT cables over genuine ones.

Most TNZ outlets should be selling cables at the same price as APT, so where you buy from is not an issue.

There are offers on the table to get an APT cable for $20 when signing up to a data plan. Please check latest offers in store, they change all the time.

$179-00 bucks seems a heck of a lot for a data cable. A lot of phones cost a similar amount!!

Did a quick google search and found a site called Vavolo.com most of their leads were $24-00 bucks odd and $5-00 postage worldwide, and a couple of sites in the states the leads there were about $50-00 I suppose they were all USA dollars.
It sounds like the old NZ is a cptive market so I can charge 100% mark up.
I haven't looked for your particular model but if you have a look and are prepared to wait for postage looks like you could be $80-150-00 better off.

Even if you don't succeed its sure worth a look!!

Ups and downs to that. If all goes well, you saved a lot of dosh. If not, then you have no support and sometimes little chance of return.

I'd recommend that anyone who uses mobile data extensively should buy a cable from a local supplier who can provide backup service.

Some brands of cable are only $99 here for genuine ones.

yep I agree with Disenchanted aswell.

If you take the $50-00 odd usa dollars (Don't forget thats their retail including markup etc) add the exchange and freight $99 seems more reasonable. A bit expensive but not a rip off. $99-00 doesn't make me angry enough to go shopping with my bankcard on the net. I've got a few Items from the USA and all have gone well. But if Vavolo has your cable listed for $30-00 bucks inc freight, I'd take the risk. They where properly packaged with software CDs, instructions etc included. Even thought of getting a few in and having a go on "trade me" but if you can get them for $99 its getting almost to close!!

$100-00 bucks is still alot of money for a bit of wire and two plugs thats for sure!!

Yes it is, but its not just that, its of course margin to pay the wages of the person who sells it, and margin to cover after sales support (which doesnt always cover it) 100% of margin is blown if the customer comes back in with their laptop and says "I cant make it work", and you spend 15 - 30 minutes deinstalling their mess, and reinstalling correctly, then testing the connection, then answering the customers inevitable questions.

Thanks for the vote of support Disenchanted. : )

Regarding the pricing comments, there are a few things on the fly at the moment I've heard of from the sales team that may lead to some price drops, but nothings official until they announce it. Should know more in the next month or two.

The $179+GST is the current price, but back when the network launched, they originally sold for ~229+GST if I remember correctly. That was when the phones were only 14.4kb, rather than 1X aswell.

But still compared to the old days ($400+ modems aswell as needing a $179+ cable for 025 data), it's still a whole lot cheaper than it used to be. Just peoples perceptions have changed. Likewise phones sell for $200-400 now, but that's only after the provider (Telecom/Vodafone) has subsidised it. The cost to buy one outright is still usually $800-$1200.

I'll let you all know if/when the price drop happens.

I havent had an APT email newsletter for ages - i think the last one I got was the one after the win-a-cable competition where only one person entered...

Could I have fallen off, or have you guys been to busy.

Mostly just busy. The last one we sent out was mid August. They'll be another Informal Informer sent out this month. (PS: the mailing list is primarily for dealers/resellers of APT only. If you're in this category but don't know about it please send me a message.)

Also it looks like the TX115c sync softwares been released. We haven't done any testing with it, but the link is: http://www.curitel.com/english/download/pcsynch.asp

Hey I understand that the price difference between cables and phones seem dispreportionate and except this is because the retailers are subsidising the phone to get the ongoing contracts.
But I cannot except the argument that we have to charge more because of labour, fixing installation mess and all the reasons disenchanted put forward.
Reason is don't you think all these are already included in the USA retail cost. I'm not quoting trade prices here. $50-00 USA is their retail including rent, tax, staffing, margin and customer service!! The freight from source to USA can't be alot different than from source to NZ. There volume and buying power will make a difference but someone in the chain is still making a very large margin. The world is at small place $9.95 for unlimited Slingshot Dialup.

The figures
Vavolo= $ 24-00USD = $43-00NZD + frieght = $50-00 odd NZD Landed + ?? wait
$50-00 USD = $72.43NZD + frieght = $100-00 odd NZ bucks landed + 2 weeks wait

The above figures are purely speculative but the gap is still rather large up to $179-00. With the $80-00 difference I can afford to pay you an hour to sort out my install mess if I couldn't be bothered to RTFM before using the cable.

Don't want to offend anybody or get into a war over this but from a laymans point of view the figures don't seem to fit. I think the importer is making 100% and the retailer wants a margin aswell you guys need to buy direct. I know I can go without a cable for the 2 weeks delivery and read rtfm well enough to get it going.
