I've got a nokia e61, just after a speedtest friendly site, so I can tell when I'm in 3G hsdpa or UMTS.

I don't believe Vodafone have any 3G sites now that aren't HSDPA capable. If you are within 3G coverage you should have HSDPA connectivity.

If there are particular locations you want to test you could plug it into a computer and use it as a usb modem to do a normal speedtest.

My Merlin 870 will tell me that.

Just need to be able to do it off the phone quickly to see if I can SIP call when i'm on the road.

The phone will tell you if you are in HSDPA coverage with the logo on the screen.

The E61 doesn't do HSDPA anyway so you won't get anything more than 3G speeds out of it!
