I have my Harrier back now - they were unable to replicate screen freezes etc so will just have to wait and see.
I asked at Telecom shop again about setting device up for WAP and they said just get email from xtra webmail instead. I dont want to be d/l all my email all the time - rather prefer to select from a WAP browser if possible like I could with my old 027 phone.

The manual says a WAP gateway is possible on p87.

Is there any other Harrier user also using XTRA that could give me the steps (in blonde language) to help me set it up please.

ie.
What is the isp server phone number?and what do I enter for proxy server
After hitting the 'advanced' button there are 4 fields needing info and I have no idea what to put in there. either :o(
It also mentions dialling rules. ??

Thanks if anyone can assist.

Yes - the Harrier Browser is capable of WAP however you can not access Xtra Mobile Services (Xtra WAP) this way.

The best method for email it to use Messaging (Pocket Outlook)

1. Go to 'Messaging'
2. Select 'Accounts' then 'New Account'
3. Enter your email address
4. Skip the 'auto configuration'
5. Enter your name, your email username and password
6. Check 'save password' if you want to
7. 'Account Type' select POP3
8. Choose a name for this profile i.e. Xtra Mail
9. 'Incoming Mail' enter pop3.xtra.co.nz
10. 'Outgoing Mail' enter smtp.xtra.co.nz
11. Leave 'Domain' blank
12. Select options and choose if you want to auto connect
13. click next and check the box 'only display messages from the last x days'
14. click next and decide if you only want to initially get 'message headers' or the whole message and the max size of the message
15. Click finish

Thanks for your reply Jama.

Xtra Mobile Services (Xtra WAP) was just so easy - and you werent charged while you were in there - only if you actually opened an email, whereas now all mail is d/loaded even if I am only wanting to send an email, which will mean lots of charges.
Is there any way to be selective at all?
I put myself on that Flexidata $10 thinking that as I didnt use a data plan at all on previous phone, I wouldnt on the Harrier either. Silly me!

Thanks again.

The cutoff point for Broadband Flexi is 40 megs - as soon as you use more than that a month, you should bump up to Mobile Broadband 100 (100MB for fifty something dollars).

I see Vodafone are still struggling to provide decent pricing for their (slower) mobile data...

see here http://www.vodafone.co.nz/pricing_plans/mobile_data.jsp?item=mobile_data
for current Vodafone data prices.
