I am upgrading my phone in a few months and I cant decide whether to get the Blackberry storm or the HTC touch Pro for verizon.  They are both pretty good devices on paper, but I am looking for a touch screen smartphone that provides aim and an easy sync access with my computer.  So any advice or suggestions?........Undecided

I'd go the Touch Pro for its screen resolution - had one until recently - quite a nice phone. The browsing experience is so much better with the extra pixels, and the Opera brwoser it comes with is brilliant.

Spending the extra few hundred dollars for the Xperia is probably worth it for the screen alone though (love mine to bits, browsing is such a pleasure on the WVGA 800x480 resolution screen). Of course if you don't need a hardware keyboard then the HTC Touch HD is an option, although its reviews have been relatively average.

I bought nztechfreaks HTC TP off him a few weeks ago and have to say im pretty happy with it.

You can download the official AIM client or one of the other multi-protocol IM apps for it.

Syncing it with windows is easy using activesync.

The only major problem i've run in to is that sometimes after sliding the KB out and trying to type, the KB doesn't seem to respond at all and the fonts disappear/go all wonky when in landscape mode.

Other than that, the TP has been a great phone so far!

The keyboard lag is usually fixed by turning predictive text off on the virtual keyboards kyhwana... Glad to hear you're enjoying the phone!

This is an article I stumbled across about the Blackberry storm.  The OS has a new unofficial update many people have said that this is a great change.  So i need a bit more of a push!

Ahh yep, I managed to fix that part.
I meant sometimes the hardware keyboard just doesn't work when trying to SMS. Usually end up having to reboot the phone.

Unusual, never had that myself...

The other thing to consider is that Blackberry are bringing their software to the WinMo platform soon, so the only differentiating factor is hardware (and the Touch Pro has a better resolution screen, which is important for browsing and document display).

I mean any update that would improve the quality of the phone.  Speed, resolution, bandwidth?  If there is I would like to know about it.  I have one more month to go and I am narrowing down to the touch pro....

Er, you can't "patch" up to a better resolution as it's fixed.. There are some cooked roms floating around on the xda-forums that claim to fix various things.

There are tweaks you can apply to make the HTC Touch Pro (or most other phones) feel faster.

Also.. are you happy to pay for Blackberry and its BES? Or do you have your own Exchange server?

As for me, a salesperson tried to upsell me to a Blackberry when I was asking to get my Palm Treo Pro. He asked why do I want Palm and I replied I'm looking at upgrading my phone. And he asked have I ever consider Blackberry and I told him "No thanks, I don't want to pay for Blackberry plan as I already have my own Exchange server and just need a new Windows Mobile - or Mail for Exchange if I want Nokia." And that shut him up knowing that he can't lie between his teeth to sell me a Blackberry.

So my question to you is, what is your need for a Blackberry. Do you already use a Blackberry device and its messaging services? Are you aware that most places/countries have different data plan for Blackberry as to other normal data plan? If you just want to smartphone device to use, then perhaps HTC Touch Pro is more ideal.

Unfortunately he speaks the truth, you cannot increase resolution (hardware) with firmware (software). If only...

Anyways, yes, like any WinMo phone there are tweaks to increase performance, or custom ROMs.

Also, doesn't Blackberry Storm have no wifi? I couldn't live without wifi on my phone, now that I've had it, so HTC Touch Pro would be my choice.
