Hi There!

I am in the market for a new Mobile Phone.

I have had a N95-8GB which I loved, but I thought was quite bulky, it did everything I wanted and I wish I hadn't "upgraded" to the N85 which is RUBBISH.

Things I hate about the N85

- Totally rubbish battery life
- awkward key placement
 - dpad is awkward to use resulting in other keys being pressed
 - Rubbish screen, can't be seen outside in sunlight
 - MicroUSB (Worst connector EVER) which is painfully slow to charge via USB

I really like slider phones, I prefer them to anything else.

Ideally I would want a slider for basic phone functions like dialing and hard keys for start/end call,
but a nice decent sized screen for touch functions like using txt or browsing the internet etc. 5MP camera of decent quality would be desirable. Not too bulky/heavy.

Needs excellent battery life (bluetooth on), needs to be fast and reliable. I would prefer Windows Mobile or Symbian OS, but at the end of the day so long as the browser is good and predictive text is workable then I am not too worried.

I would prefer a high res screen.

Anyone know of such a beast? I don't want a full qwerty keyboard slideout if I can avoid it.

Dunno if you are into full touch screen phones but my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has been nothing but bliss for me.
The alphanumeric keypad works so well with predictive its not even funny.

Web browsing is really nice too!

hi, there, full touchscreen doesn't really appeal as I prefer a keyboard for typing numbers into when i make phone calls which I do a LOT. It's also easier to do this when you are driving when you can feel keys saving you from needing to look at the screen. Things like dialing preset numbers etc...

Yeah you do make a valid point. Cant really dial while driving without looking at the phone which then becomes dangerous!

Well, there is the Nokia E90 which has the hard keys for numbers you need, a very large internal screen for web browsing, runs Symbian S60, but the only issue is the size.  It DOES have a 800x352 internal screen and a 3.2 MP camera with autofocus, and the external screen is 240x320, it has Wifi and it 3G.   Read here for an excellant review.

LG has just released a S60 slider with a large screen.

HTC has a great range, including the Touch HD but it's not a slider.

All up there is a very large range!

The problem with the HTC ones is that most of the sliders with high-res screens are QWERTY ones, which he mentioned he would rather avoid. If you were going WinMo with QWERTY the Sony Xperia is better than HTCs offerings (had an Xperia 3 months, HTC Touch Pro before that).

I must admit I did like the blackberry storm I played with this week.

I would be interested in borrowing a few phones for a few days (playing with one in the shop isn't the same).

I have a Nokia N85 if someone had an HTC google phone, xperia, or htc touch I could borrow in swap for the n85 for a few days I'd be keen.

Wait a bit for the Touch Pro2, it was just announced at GSMA Barcelona. I doubt Vodafone will get it in but you can always import it =]

Here's a plan... Dont text and drive!!!! (sooner this is made illegal the better!) You have no idea how many friggin idiots texting that I have to avoid everyday!

And you're going to hate it when all phone get a mini USB connector in an effort to standardise phone chargers.

I bought myself a Samsung Pixon M8800 but I need to know how to configure it to send pxt and connect to the internet ?  Are there generic settings for my phone?

I will keep this a few months unless I hate it and move to the palm pre or the Diamond Touch 2 or the Ultra S8300 or something when they are released.
