I read these can be unlocked to allow for 3G Access. How would I do this does anyone know?

AFAIK this phone is a tri-band phone.

K510i 900/1800/1900 MHz as per GSM Arena.

It means this phone is not a 3G mobile.  Yes, it can be unlocked - go back to the original operator.
