Hi All,

I can't seem to find a definitive answer for this no matter what search string I use.

Can the Nokia E71 sync to exchange (email, calendar and contacts) via USB rather than over the air?

I have read that the E71 supports ActiveSync, but there is no mention as to whether this is over the air or by cable.  My preference is for cable.

I have the phone syncing all but email via PC Suite, but would like to get email as well.

Thanks

No, you can only sync to an Exchange server using Nokia Mail for Exchange using WiFi or a mobile data connection, it does not work with a cable.

You can also only use MfE or the PC Suite ActiveSync - attempting to use both together will just corrupt your data.

I suspect the main issue is that PC Suite isn't designed to be an internet gateway to allow you to access the internet from a phone - hence the requirement for a wireless connection to the exchange server.

ActiveSync using the USB cable is only designed to sync the phone with local files on the same PC.

Why would you want to use a cable connection to connect to an exchange server? IMHO it kind of defeats the purpose of having email on the phone if you need to find a PC to sync the emails.
