Hi

I have a 7400 and am trying to get the most out of it with a data cable. I have managed to transfer 4 ringtones and 10 images using bitpim and putting them into the pcsync area but this is its total capacity allowed in the pcsync area.

The download area has a huge amount more but these are supposed to be downloaded off WAP plus thats the only way to get programs and games on.

I have been playing in the filesystem and you can upload files into the main download area but i cannot figure out how to get the label there noting a new ringer. If one has been properly downloaded i can replace it with any file no probs just not create a new file. Anyone have any ideas as to what files to add a new file listing. I have played with the ContentsList.txt file and a hex editor but with no luck. I think the system is pretty similar with any Sanyo.

I have found the following solutions for cheaper ringtones:
You can d/l files by uploading from www.sprintusers.com and downloading by entering the WAP link
If a tiny 1k midi file is uploaded it saves data charges
If you use bitpim's file browser this the file /data/brew/downloads/ringers/000XX/000XX can be overwritten with any mid (wav's and mp3 work on 7400) XX is a number entered which seems to be incremental for each picture, vid ringer etc

So if theres a way to make the menu entry without needing to downlaod first it would be great.

Any ideas appreciated

Sorry i'm unable to help as i'm almost a complete tech-numpty but keen to hear your advice on downloading midi files etc for use as ringtones....

I have a midi file saved to my computer plus also have downloaded a music cd that i'd like to isolate part of a track to use as a ring tone....any ideas how to isolate just maybe 10 seconds of the track?

Plse use small words and type REAL slow when you're explaining something!

Cheers in advance!

Hi

Ok ill try :)

Ok software wise you need 3 programs.
Bitpim from http://bitpim.sf.net
Midi editing software, i used anvil studio
mp3 editing software, i used audacity.

Install these programs onto your PC
with your midi file edit it in anvil and delete everything in it so its basically an empty midi file.
Upload this file at http://www.sprintusers.com/focus/ and enter a dummy number ie. 123456789
Open WAP on your phone and goto the link provided after you uploaded the file. Something like http://www.sprintusers.com/focus/content/1234567890123456789.gcd its pretty long and annoying to enter.
Your phone will download the file and put it into your downloaded ringers folder. Since the file was so tiny the download will cost you next to nothing in data usage.
Now using audacity edit your mp3 so that you have only the section of the song you want as a ring tone and save it.
Open up bitpim and connect your phone. Goto the file system and goto /data/brew/downloads/ringers/ there will be a folder like 000XX where the XX is some number. In that folder there will be a file 000XX with no extension. Right click on it and got overwrite then select the mp3 file you made.
Thats it if you navigate to the downladed ring tone in your phone it should now be the mp3 file (providing your phone can handle mp3 ringers the 7400 can im not sure of any other models) if not they can be converted (using nokia converter software) to amr (i think) which is a truetone format.

the others are usually *.QCP, a qualcomm proprietry format.
the converter is available at CDMATECH.com, it's called purevoice. Try the windows based one, it should covert a WAV, it's buggy and crashes often, the Command line verson will work perfectly but it's well harder to use.

Ok, now lets see wat format and extension Games come under :)

Ringers work like a charm... in NZ its 5c per new tiny file you put in... beats heck out f $5 per true tone ...

Don't know if this works for the 7400, but with my Nokia 3659 (Vodafone). I uploaded some wallpaper, ringtones, trutones and javagames to my website, (privately just to test on how it works), and was able to download all items into my phone. So maybe you could try your own stuff like that on your webpage just to test it out. But I have noticed Telecom has increased its prices for surfing outside of it's wap homepage.

Thanks for the replies, I should have taken the 7400 when telecom offered to replace my faulty old fone.
I have succesfully added ring tones at a low price by uploading the ones i want to htttp://rumkin.com/tools/sprint, Dont put your phone no in and just navigate via WAP to the Jump page and enter the number they gave you for your fine and presto it cownloads. 5c per Kb I think it is through Telecom, most ring tones are 1 to 5kb so its pretty cheap.

Hi there,

I used the "http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/upload.php" to upload a .m4a (I read a tutorial somewhere on how to do it i think) true tone file and downloaded it successfully on my partners 7400.

I have a 8100 and i use the same method which should theoretically work but it tells me...

"Data Error 901

Insufficient Memory"

then says Install Failed.

Just wondering if anyone can help.

Cheers

Michael

You may be trying to overwrite the wrong file. there are two in the listing, one with an extn and one without.... make sure your overwriting the one without the extn.

Otherwise you could be over your availble space :/

I never realised how limited Telecom mobiles are, Crappy phone features this includes the Sonyo 7400, 8100, the Hyundai TX115c, all with limited memory, wap surfing limitations, you can't save images straight to phone or even pxt images, you have to click a link to view, and then you cant save it to phone,, or allowed to download .jar files (java games) or ringtones straight from a webpages. I have a Nokia 3650, with a 256 memory card, pxt messages sent straight to phone and can be saved, And if you know the weblink to say ringtones, .jar files, they will download and can be saved. Transfer stuff between phones via inbuilt Infra Red or Bluetooth. I went to buy my 7400 a USB cable, but at $140, My daughters TX115c cable at $99 from Telecom shop, I dont think I will, and looking at the forums, it has limits to what you can and cant do. Bro-dafone for life.

I got a data cable for the 8100/7400 for $30 off trademe, then used BitPim and all is good.

I haven't figured out the games yet, but ringtones etc are easy enough to get onto your phone following the above guide.

And its Sanyo restricting how stuff is downloaded, not Telecom :) Blame the phone manufacturer not the telco..... Using the downloads section on your phone holds a lot more than the pc sync BS that its "normally" meant to use

My brother lives in Oz, he told me to buy the Sanyo 7400, as he has one hooked up to Optus in Oz, So I had aplay around with that to try out, and very much liked it, His phone can download and intall stuff straight off the web, and are automatically put in correct folders, java games in games folders etc.. Save images, midi's, I thort cool, so I bought one from Telecom. I see the diffrence now I hate the phone, hate my old Sanyo 8100, hate my old Hyundai TX115c (I gave to my daughter), they're all brand new old , I just upgrade through telecom, save's $50 and still keep the old phones, So in my conclusion, it's a Telecom thing.

not a very good conclusion vinny.... it is absolutely Sanyo! And as the 7400 is not available on Optus, you might be confused about your brothers phone too...

just a thought
