Hi, folks. Just a quick question to which I'm sure someone here will be able to enlighten me:

Is it still the case that it's impossible to switch from Vodafone PrePay to a billed plan while retaining the same phone number? If so, is there any rhyme or reason to this?

A friend of mine is looking to connect to the Vodafone network and I'm tempted to recommend that she connect to a billed plan right from the beginning so that she doesn't have to face the possibility of having to change her phone number if her usage increases in the future.

You cant keep your old number when changing from pre pay to account.I guess its due to the billing system that vodafone have.It is quite silly, you would think that you should be able to.Only thing you can do is try to get the first or last number taken off your exsiting phone number. And change the voice mail message to tell people your new number. And also check the old sim for text/MMS mesages every once and a while . Thanks for that, Andrew. It seems really stupid that you still can't keep the same number, considering all the publicity that number portability has received lately. Hopefully Vodafone will do something about it at some stage in the future.

Even when we have number portability.I bet you will find you will only be able to port your number between networks. Not beween pre pay and account on the same network!

That was my point. It would be crazy to think that you could go from Vodafone PrePay to a billed connection with a different provider while keeping the same number, yet be unable to achieve this if switching to a Vodafone billed connection!

I'm pretty sure that Telecom currently allow Go Prepaid users to switch to a billed account without changing their phone numbers, so this is something that Vodafone really need to address.

Especially considering Vodafone's ultimate goal is to get more people onto plans as the ARPU is a lot higher than prepay customers!

I would not speculate, I read that vodafone is moving its prepay and on Acc customers to one platform, SIEBEL from IBM. I am sure once they are on one platform this would be alot easier. Guess we will just have to wait and see.
