In my opinion, to me at least this is the most exciting 3G handset, I know that Vodafone have some in New Zealand as it has somewhat displaced the Z1010 for 3G trials/displays.
Just browsing the Sony Ericsson site for NZ the 'COMING SOON' has been removed so this handset may be available in NZ soon

If you like clamshells then there seems to be a lot of talk about the Samsung SGH-Z500

a few photos here http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/5810.html

Personally I hate clamshells but with the Asian companies seeming to be way ahead of Nokia and SE when it comes to 3G phones I think we're going to have to get used to them as it's all they want to make!

You guys seen the Z800? looks like a un-branded Z800 for other networks than Vodafone. If it comes in black I would want to get that one so dont have to have the vodaphone branding menus and what not.

It's possible to flash a V800 to a Z800.
Really nice phone, no annoying Vodafone crap :)

If you ring up Parallel Importers they might be able to give you a date, you won't be able to buy the Z800 from Vodafone I suspect, only the branded V800 version.

A shop in Albany is already selling them, Cause the 3G network is not on yet its a good idea to go into the menu and select GSM only and this makes the battery last way longer.

Can someone tell me what the difference between the V802SE and V800? ive asked retailers and they say there is no difference, but I think they're must be because why would they call it something else.

The V802se is just the V800 with Japanese firmware on it, Japanese character support etc.
In fact the V800, V802se and Z800i are all exactly the same phone hardware wise, it's just the firmware loaded on them that's different.

If you are able to purchase a Z800i instead of a V800, these are the improvements the non-Vodafone firmware has:

- Enable you to use Mp3 as your ringtone
- Enable use of pictures for incoming call on external display
- Menu loads much faster
- Better reception
- Higher camera resolution
- Louder volume

The last 4 items are probably just depending on what revision of firmware the phones have though, as opposed to anything purposely built into the firmwares as the Z800i firmware came out after the V80x firmware.
The first 2 are certainly Vodafone crippled though, same as the K700i with VF firmware.

Hope this helps.

Won't it be pretty hard to buy the Z800 in NZ? I've been waiting for this phone and I can pretty much buy it now, I just wanted to make sure I was making the right choice. Plus the Z800 doesnt look as good as V800, unless u can get the z800 in black?

Couldn't you put Z800i firmware on the V800? then you'd have the Z800 firmware and the V800's good looks

Yes, it's to flash the firmware on these phones to change them, if you end up getting one you can contact me and I can help you out. You can either do it yourself (requires buying some gear) or I can do it for you.
