According to the site the Optimiser should interact with the Macara client, from the PC Card CD... I was told yesterday that it's actually clientless, intercepting all http traffic. This way all traffic would benefit (mobile phones, PDA with built in wireless access, PC Cards). I still have to confirm this with someone at Vodafone.

I've noticed an increase in speed for all connections I've, not very big, but sometimes noticeable.

Answering your question: I don't know for sure, but all traffic on their GPRS network is from the mobile terminal to the proxy server. So this is the only real connection the terminal will do. All other connections are from the proxy server to the actual server.

I'd expect to have better timings, but not much difference in latency.

As I said I'll try and confirm this with Vodafone.

Yep, I think it's clientless. I've tested on a Pocket PC connected to the GPRS network and the speed results are the same as the ones I get on my laptop with the Vodafone Connect card.

So, it's good news for everyone on the GPRS service.

I'll look for the latency information later today.

Just got some information from Vodafone, and they confirmed it's clientless now.

Only download performance should be affected, upload and e-mail or other protocols should be the sameas before.
