I'm not an expert, but you should be able to. I have set up a number of mobile laptop connections which require a modem driver to be downloaded, but from what I have seen on the web there doesn't appear to be a driver needed for your Ipaq. Someone will undoubtedly correct me if I'm wrong... :P

Set up a new modem connection in your Ipaq using the telecom mobile broadband settings: #777 as the number, jama@jamamobile as your username and telecom as your password.

Switch on IrDA on both machines and dial... sounds too simple, but hey, you never know.

Your 6225 must be a postpay - you cannot use prepay for a data connection.

thanks for your answer Jase
the 6225 is on a postpaid plan and subscribes to a mobile data plan.
I can browse the Internet on it, but its a tiny screen and no decent keyboard
Having done what you said
I then tryed to use the Internet which
got the Ipaq to connect to the mobile, the connection is made, and a data call briefly established
on the mobile evidenced by the send/recieve screen showing on the mobile.
The data call then ends
The Ipaq says there is no answer, perhaps this suggests the Ipaq is trying to establish a voice call ? OR I should change the modem settings ? from
baud rate 19.2
data bits : 8
parity : none
stop bits : 1
flow control : hardware

probably one of those simple things perhaps ? once you have done it once, its so easy ?

I don't know it applies 100%, but Telecom New Zealand have a page with instructions to use the Nokia 6385 as modem (e.g Mobile Broadband data modem) with Pocket PC.

When you initiate the connection, are you getting the Send/Receive screen on the 6225?

Try removing +crm=1 and +cso=33 from your init strings, these are not required for the 6225/6585.

You might need to modify the ppp settings on your iPAQ, had a lot of problems with older iPAQs. I have a newer ppp.dll file that you can try on your iPAQ, give me your email and I'll send it through, with how to install.

Cheers

Just to be clear, your mobile data plan doesnt include browsing through wap.
(Just in case you didnt know).

I use a 6225 now and again on my old Ipaq, and I needed +crm=1 as string....

+crm=1 for Nokias

If you don't use that init string then it will disconnect right after connecting.

I didn't require +crm=1 when using 6225 with h5550, strange that the older OS does require it? Been a while since I've used them though, so maybe there has been firmware changes?? Or perhaps my memory fails me?!

I certainly did require it when using 6385 though.

Another common issue experienced with the nokias (in conjuction with a PPC) is that often they require a power cycle in order to initiate a second data call. Some handoff required? Experienced this issue more with cable connections though...

I also experience very slow data over IR with Nokia CDMA phones (around 33.6kbps) although the older 6385 runs at at full speed.

All Nokias I have used have run at full speed over a cable

+crm=1 is NOT handset specific and will work on all Nokias as far as I'm aware.

Those other strings such as +CSO=33 to force packet data or +CSO=12 to force circuit switched data won't neccessarily work on all Nokias as they ARE handset specific.
