Is anyone aware of a CDMA handset that is available in NZ that is certified as Intrinsically safe?

Have a GSM option, but would much rather offer CDMA:

I think Motorola use to do a AMPS phone. But I have not seen much in the CDMA Camp. IF there was it would have to be put into PTC first, it would appeal to a very small market in NZ, I do not see it happening in the short term.

unfortuantely there isnt any instrinsically Safe CDMA phones available in NZ currently.

There are a couple of modified Qualcom/Kyocera based devices available in the US but the demand here hasnt justified the cost of developement for NZ.

If you need instrinsic phones GSM is the best bet. They arent cheap though.

Thanks guys.

Yeah I had seen the Kyo's overseas, surely it wouldn't be too hard to regression test them for NZ?! LOL

making it work is the easy part.

....I could probably configure an ECOM 2300 Intrinsic phone to work on Telecoms network in about 5 minutes flat. (well at least for voice & SMS...wap/data might take another 5 mins)

Could be a business for a right minded entrepreneur....secure the distribution rights, gain PTC, sell them and make a profit. ...assuming there's a demand for more than just one or two.
