Hi

First post here, although I've lurked for a while:->

I moved here from Ireland earlier in the year and brought my iPhone.  I jailbroke and unlocked it (originally locked to O2 Ireland), and it works fine for voice and text, but no matter what I try I cannot get it to access the internet on 3G.  I have tried several suggestions posted here including unlockit.co.nz, but to no avail.  I have also tried my SIM (post-pay Vodafone SIM with iPhone plan) in my Blackberry and it access the internet ok, so it looks like the phone.  It was working ok in Ireland...

Has anyone any ideas before I chuck it into the sea?  It's driving me mad!

Thanks

If you have a "normal" SIM you will need a Vodafone data plan for the internet to work although given you have an Iphone plan, this probably wont make any difference. Also check the APN. From some forums I've seen, occasionally it reverts back to what the original setting was. There is a topic in the Vodafone NZ forum on this.

I have tried the sim in my Blackberry and can get access to the internet on 3G - hence my belief that it is something on the iPhone that is the cause of the problem...

Quoted from the Vodafone NZ website FAQ's...

Q "Why can't I access the web from my iPhone?"

A "If you are using your iPhone on one of our existing On Account plans (You Choose, talkZone, or Corporate), you?ll need to add a broadband plan for mobiles in order to get mobile data on the Vodafone network."

Well that needs to be cleaned up

All you do is change the APN to www.vodafone.net.nz

I have tried www.vodafone.net.nz, both entering it manually and also using the unlockit.co.nz method.

I have an appropriate plan - it's the iPhone plan and I am paying Vodafone for the privilege.

I have tried pretty much every suggested variety of APN, including 'why won't this bl**dy iPhone work.co.nz"!

It has me beat!

Can you try your SIM in a data card / Vodem and check if it has any issues connecting?

I would check the core network but not back in the office till Thursday

By any chance have you taken a prepay number to postpay?

Hi Johnr

I've tried the sim in a Blackberry and can connect fine to the internet.

The number is an original postpay number (no "0" at the start).

The callcentre tell me there should not be any reason I can't connect, but I can't.

I can e-mail you the number of needed...

Cheers

(BTW, nice bike - I have a Blackbird...)

Just moved house over the weekend, everything in chaos. Which is the PIN no, and where might I find it? I will look for the original store documentation and see what I can find...

Ok guys, same problem here, although this is how you fix it,
as you have mentioned you used unlockit.co.nz, please go to
Settings --> General --> Profiles --> Remove

Now goto
Settings --> General --> Network --> Cell data name (or similar)

If you are on an iPHONE plan, change it to: www.iphone-vodafone.net.nz
if not, change it to: www.vodafone.net.nz

I sure hope this helps you
