Hiya, I want to buy a freerunner as a present and would really appreciate some advice because to be frank I have no idea what I am doing.

I see on the openmoko site I can buy an A6 direct or a much more expensive A7 from a series of distributors. I am aware the diff between the two includes the buzz fix in the A7. Is this worth the extra effort/expense or would I be ok buying the A6?

If the A7 looks to be best, which would be the better area/distributor to get it from? (Here I am making the assumption we use GSM900 in NZ).

Please help a technically challenged person make an open source geek happy!

The Buzz problem seems to be mostly restricted to 1800/1900 GSM systems which we don't have here. The latest distributions are getting closer to a working phone, SHR are still calling their latest and greatest "unstable" but they are working on a more stable "testing" version. As a software developer there is a lot to learn with these devices, makes you wonder how those long winter nights have given those Nordic people a real advantage...

We ordered 12 phones through Pulster http://www.pulster.de/ he had a good deal on the transport cost (30 euro instead of 80 USD) and was reasonably good to deal with, it all took some time but the shipment arrived in the end. As far as I know there was 1 phone with a problem that eventually got replaced under warranty with a new one, but that took again some time in dealing with customs and couriers etc. Send them an email and he will qoute you a price without GST, they will want pre-payment before they ship. When the package arrives in NZ you will get an invoice for the GST here.

Thanks for the replies!

I ended up by ordering some other kick arse gadgets because it was looking like I would not be able to get my hands on one in time... so alas no money left to buy your one edictor.

Thanks again.
