Hey,

Purely for personal entertainment reasons, I am very interested in some sort of universal remote control used via infrared for the Sony Ericsson K750i which I will be getting when it is realeased (approx. 1 month, wicked phone by the way check it out: http://gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_k750-1090.php ).

I have heard of this feature before, and I am just wondering if anybody knows how I would go about getting this on my phone. Would it use a Java application to do this?

Hope someone knows about this :)

Interesting... I know the Sony Ericsson K700 will remote control a PC via Bluetooth - but that's using a Bluetooth HID profile. Never heard of a remote control application for other devices via IR.

Also, most phones and PDA use IrDA when consumer electronics like TV and stereo use CIR (Consumer IR) which is stronger... The range on IrDA is very small compared with CIR.

Yes thats what I thought, but I was reading somewhere that it could be done.

It wouldnt really interest me if I had to be standing like 2cm away from the tv/stereo, etc.

Thanks for your help Freitasm

I had a remote control app for my p910 (demo only :( ), worked with my Panasonic tv set fine, as said above the range was quite poor.

Aligning the infrared port was a challenge too. It wasn't too forgiving in that aspect.

I could get it working from about 1-1.5m away, but then it got unreliable around 1.5m. Also it does drain the battery quite quick as well.

I found this forum in the hope of getting a remote control application for my k750i. I'm glad im not the only one who's thought of this, but my search has led me to believe theres no such thing. There is no reason howeer why there shouldnt be one, as i owned such an application for my Nokia 6600 which was called Total IRremote. Superb software that i used a lot whenever i lost my normal remote. It was a .sis file for symbian phones, but im sure it could be made as a java package.

There's a difference between these two models though - the Nokia 6600 is a Symbian OS based Smartphone and there's a well established group of developers using widely available tools and SDK to create applications for it. The K7750i is not a smartphone and it is limited to Java applications which are not as widely available.
