It's interesting to see what Vodafone are doing in Germany.

5Gb of 3G data usage for €34 per month providing you stay in your home zone and 1000 mins of local & national calls for €20 per month again if you stay in your home zone. Combine this with one of the 3G voice/ethernet data routers that allow you to plug your PC's and existing phones straight in and you have a rather interesting setup.

hopefully data pricing is competitive, if it is eventually i will consider mobile only
3g data, voice (instead of a fixed line) could be more cost effective

It was also interesting to Vodafone in the Sunday Star Times yesterday mentioning lower call prices as well with 3G due to increased capacity. It makes you wonder why calls need to be so expensive at the moment when Vodafone's existing network certainly isn't at capacity! :-)

With the stories in the media today, particularly IDG it looks like we might have some interesting things happen over the coming weeks.

Does anybody know if these 'yellow' towers actually exist? I haven't been to Auckland for a few months.

It is also interesting to note that many of Vodafone's recently built 3G sites in Wellington (ie only the last couple of months) also have spare mounts on them for additional panels. These are new 3G only sites that do not have GSM gear on them. I assume this is simply to allow for future expansion if required and to avoid RMA issues but it also makes you wonder if it's for co-siteing of gear..

interesting site, looks similar to the one that was met with complaints in wadestown(wgtn)
this one is just at the split to sh1 and sh2 at the flyover, atop a street light alongside the motorway

The site at Ngauranga Gorge is a brand new Voda 3GSM site. Why they put it in such an ugly enclosure is anybody's guess - some low profile panels mounted on the lanp standard would have been a lot less obvious!!
