Who sells bluetooth headphones for music. I can't find any on the online store. Very few NZ retailers seem to stock them. Trade Me is full of counterfeits (I have some counterfeits in my hands now, should have known better.).

Any ideas?

But having never dealt with them before and the fact I was sold fakes on tradme, I am weary to buy from them.

I have tried Noel Leeming, Bond & Bond, Dick Smith, Digital Mobile, Magnum Mac and Harvery Norman (All in Christchurch) with no luck. Harvey Norman are going to call their suppliers and let me know though.

I would do some research online about the various kinds/models - once you've got model numbers then check on Pricespy (many parallel importers have them). I've got some through Sony Style stores, and most of the rest via reputable Ebay powersellers.

I got some Samsung SBH-500's from the local Telecom store. They're not bad as far as Bluetooth stuff goes (not exactly audiophile quality due to poor bitrate). You will need to have tiny ears though as they pinch terribly on my huge Dumbo-wings. I got another pair from flashcards.co.nz a couple years back too, they only appear to stock earbud-style ones at the moment though.

I'd like them a lot more if the manufacturers didn't insist on having stupid bright-blue blinking LEDs in them. Yes, we KNOW they're BLUEtooth, you don't need to accentuate the fact. (I despise blue LEDs primarily as people always seem to put the brightest ones they can find into things).

If only they weren't so darn hard to take apart I could put black tape over the LED like I did to my bluetooth dongle in the HTPC.

Here is a mini review of some EverE T909S bluetooth headphones I bought from Noel Leeming. I have also seen them at Harvey Norman and Digital Mobile. They were $59.00.

Good:
- Comfortable to wear
- Good sound
- Cheap!
- Easy to setup.

Bad
- Cut out a bit with my Nokia E71 when the battery gets low with the phone in my shorts pocket (my rellies have the same model and haven't reported any issues with the ipod touch)
- Start to fall off my ears after more than 1 hour of running (I think it is if I get too sweaty!)

I use a Motorola S9 which is very good but a bit fickle outdoors.

Unfortunately lots of fake S9s around as well

Trues, but it's about being buyer savvy also. If you do your homework, you'll spot the fakes from the genuine. Ask questions, and if your question isnt answered, then that's enough to put some doubt in going ahead in the auction.

my 2 cents

Jabbra BT620 (Telecom outlet, $99)
these are the best of the ones I have, low drop out, compatible with all my devices, over ear design with fixed headband makes them bulky.

LG HBN (Were included with my wifes Prada)
these were the best I had (left them in the Albert St food court after a few too many beers), similar in appearance to the Jabbra, but with a folding neck band

SonyEricsson HBH DS970 (Digial Mobile booth in a mall, $120)
These a pendant style with siliconn ear plugs, these are light and small and good to put my ID tags on. The ear plugs fall out all the time, but I think that is my ear shape. These connect well, funciton well and don't have signal dropout

Sony DR-BT21G (came with BT walkman)
these are rubbish, signal drops in and out, they are light, comfortable and fold up, with a good battery life, but the sound is poor and the drop out rate poor. Interestingly, exceptionally bad near traffic lights.

why bluetooth for music? - why not cable - FAR FAR better audio sound- you have to carry the phone with you anyway... whats the inconvenience of a cable running thru your shirt?
bluetooth for PS3 and games, handsfree and the car, but as an audiophile its just not up to spec (imo) :) (bang for buck)

I've had, and still have, quite a few BT headsets (all in the A2DP variety though).

I can recommend the Sony DRC-BT15 - its a receiver that you can plug any 3.5mm audio jack into. I use it with some sports buds when jogging/cycling, nice in-ear buds for casual listening, and occasionally use a 3.5-3.5mm cable to connect to stereos etc. Its very versatile, with good sound and reception.

I've had S9's, they're pretty good, but if you use them while exercising they will die within months due to sweat getting into the electronics. If you don't plan to exercise with them then this is obviously not a problem. Because they are very small, and the BT receiver is situated at the back of the neck band they will cut out from time to time unless your device is in your back pocket, breast pocket, or a sports armband. For other wrap arounds Nokia's BH-503's are good, and interestingly I've found the Sony DR-BT21G fine, as have others I know (few drop outs, reasonable sound quality),

I have the Motorola S805's, which considering how cheaply they can be purchased makes them a real bargain in the DJ-styles cans variety. Sound quality is very good, and I don't get drop outs with my phones. They can be used wired as well, which is nice. In the same vein I'd rate the Nokia BH-604's even higher, I've used them a bit, but not owned them (they have a slightly nicer sound quality, and are lighter, which is good for longer listening sessions). If you have money to burn then Nokia's latest noise-cancelling cans are probably best-in-class, although I have no experience of them myself. In this style of headset I've also owned the Plantronics 590's - they have a reasonable sound quality, are light and comfortable, no drop outs, and also cheap. Downside is their looks, and annoying flashing LED, but hey thats subjective and your mileage may vary.
