I have just purchased myself a 5800 XpressMusic recently, and updated it to all the latest software inclusive of maps 3.0.

Whenever I have it on GPS Turn By Turn Navigation, it seems to tell me that an "online connection is required. to enter the shop connect now" after about 20 or so seconds.   I thought this feature was meant to be free?

I am also having issues downloading the apps/games off the nokia/ovi site as after I click on "send to mobile", I get no text or sms that links me to download the software.

You need to update to the latest 3.3 maps.

they have free navigation (turn by turn) wher the older version asks you to pay around $100 per annum for the service.

I thought mine had the latest version too - it was just upgraded yesterday and I still get the same issue as you. Im trying to upgrade again (if there are any more upgrades)  as we speak....
Mine states the current (and latest version) is 3.01

Also - turn of 'a-gps' if you dont want network charges

applications > location > positioning > positioning methods

You only need Integrated GPS

Tried to download the Ovi Maps again but this time via their Ovi application, but it gave me an installation error!

Spooky mine's also saying it's 3.01, I am beginning to wonder if it is the actual phone software version (on mine it is 21.02.025) that is blocking me from downloading 3.3 Maps?

I have just spent the entire weekend trying to instal the new Nokia 'free' GPS' on my 5800 XM and I ran into exactly your problem. After hunting around on the 'net I found out how to do it and have just now finished getting it right and the GPS works just perfectly and brilliantly.

What I had to do was connect the phone to PC in 'Mass Storage' mode. Go to the 'Cities' folder and delete all of the contents. This gets rid of all the old maps etc. Then connect to PC back in 'Nokia PC Suite' mode and make sure all your OS software is up to date. On the Nokia website there is a place to email them your mobile number and they will text you a link to download straight to your phone all the new GPS stuff you need. I think your problem (which I also had ) comes from not having the correct licences and downloading from the link they text to you gets you the right licenses.

You need to download the latest version of Nokia MapLoader and also the latest NZ map. I got past your problem and got the GPS going but it was wildly inaccurate becuase I had an older map. Once I downloaded the latest map - just brilliant.

Good luck.

Im running version 40, latest of everything - OVI, Suite / Software updater etc.
Nothing shows there is any outstanding updates available. Ill have to do some more checking too.

Personally though Ive only ever tried voice nav in garmin. Not really a fan of turn by turn instructions anyway :)
I do like Maps as the better application over Garmin though.

<edit>
Thanks eracode, Ill check into that and report back

Urban - do update to the latest firmware if you can.

As I mentioned earlier my problem stems from being my software version, and the new maps only support software version from 31.0.008 onwards.

When I search for updates on my phone it tells me I have the latest update (21.02.025). It must be because I bought my phone from a parallel importer who sourced the phone from the middle east.

Good to hear you guys have managed to get it going though. Guess I'll have to wait till Nokia lets me update.

Mines parallel imported too - I never had any problems with upgrades to firmware though. I believe what you can do is change the product code to a product that has the update.

Search http://www.nokiausers.net/forum/nokia-5800/ for further info?

I had to change the product code on mine, the usual NSS util didn't work. I found another one but I can't remember the name.

Just download Nemesis, change your product code to NZ Blue or NZ red, then use Nokia Software Updater to update your firmware to version 40.0.005.

This will have some mnew features that'll make youphone more user-friendly, fix some bugs and change the firmware to be able to accept the new maps.

Righto so i've changed the product code to NZ Blue... no OTA update or software update via PC/OVi Suite.

Tried to install Nokia Software Updater on my Win7 64bit, and the program said it was incompatible. Gah!

I am now attempting to install the Updater on my backup Win Vista 32bit machine(it is installing very slowly might i add) and here's hoping the 5800 can update from there.

**update**
Have now successfully updated to V 40.0.005 with the New Maps

Cheers Everyone for your help!
