hi i live in new zealand and my mate brought me a vodafone mobile from australia and still has the Australian SIM inserted.
When i insert my NZ sim card the phone says please insert USIM.
so i went to a vodafone shop here in NZ and they say i have to get them to send it away to get unlocked or to go onto the vodafone australia web site and pay an unlocking fee to get it to work.
so i went onto the site to purchase this key bu there was no purchase button anywhere and when i went to the unlock page i entered my imei number and the site provided me with a free number so i followed the instructions given and entered the number and the phone succeded in unlocking the phone but it must have unlocked it for other providers in australia because when i insert my NZ sim card it still says insert USIM. i really want this phone unlocked and i have no problem paying the fee. Please help

How old is the SIM card you are putting into the handset?

Sounds like the handset is unlocked but you have a older SIM

Ok it will be a USIM then

Just a FYI Vodafone NZ will not be able to provide any support as the handset is a import

I dont have an answer to your query but I am curious as to what website you used to unlock your phone. I thought unlocking was more involved than what you described.
