I have just bought a Nokia E72 and have the Ovi Maps app that gives you free maps and voice instructions while driving. I am however having difficulties to get it working properly.

I am able to search for a location while offline and it finds it, but then when I ask it show me the route, it says it cannot establish a route. Have I not installed something properly? I should be able to use it while it is offline, if the nz map is saved on my phone? I just dont want to have to pay lots on data to use it while online.

Anyone with any help would be much appreciated!

No reason why it shouldn't be working offline, I often use it as you've described.

Have you got the latest version of Ovi Maps? (3.04) It's on the Ovi Store. Have you also got the latest version of maps data from the Map Loader on Ovi Suite?

If the unit doesn't know where it is to start with it won't be able to define a route either...
If you haven't had the GPS turned on before it will take a little longer to get thet first fix. And if you're inside a building (with a metal roof) it won't get one at all. Turning on AGPS helps but then you're paying for some network data.

It is very minimal data usage if you've downloaded the local maps. in the kb range.

Ok I cannot seem to get to work offline. It works fine online. It can find the location find, but then when I select that location it says 'No route found'

I believe you need to install the full maps for New Zealand before the GPS works properly. All that comes pre-installed are the names of main arterial routes. The download is a couple hundred MB, and can be installed using the Ovi software.

Are you trying the same address or a few different addresses?

Hmmm... It seems to work every now and then. I shall try it tomorrow while out and about for work and see how it goes!

I have found that it works fine within the same city offline, although occasionally it is not able to find the route. It can not however, find the route between cities while offline, so if I am driving from Auckland to Hamilton for instance I have to put it online in order to use the GPS.

I am pretty sure that is as good as it will get?
