N900 is still quite "experimental" and you won't find many apps for it compared to the more matured iPhone platform.

It depends if you like to tweak your phone or just want the convenience of using a user-friendly phone.

EDIT: You may want to wait and consider the Nokia N8?

iPhone 4, no question. If Android isn't your flavor, and those are your two choices, the iPhone's hardware is just too superior to the N900 to even think twice.

As ScottPalmer (a moderator here) whom is switching from Nokia to Apple iPhone 4... he's waiting for the stock to be available; and sold his N900 that he got few months back.

The N900 is a geek MID with a phone bolted on..
If you want a phone-smartphone, get the iphone.. but if you want a mini-tablet that can do internets over 3g/wifi that runs linux (you get easy access to a bash shell and getting root is as easy as doing an apt-get install

To be honest I just got the Nexus one google phone and am very happy with it! Extremely pleased with it over iphone options. But depends what you are using it for etc. But if you are only choosing out of those two I would go for iphone.

Same here. I'd get an Android phone (NexusOne) first...but if it HAD to be between iPhone and an N900....I'd go iPhone, too.

The N900 is old-ish now...and the N8 is nowhere to be seen. Meego isn't on the radar....

No idea what Nokia is playing at. They aren't even on the field of play.

Sold my N900 last week even though I loved it. Got my iPh4 an hour ago, trying to get home to charge it. Then I'll let you know :-)

But based on the iPh4 I played with, iPhone 4 far superior in hardware and app availability, unless you are a Linux g33k the choice is very obvious . . .

you have seriously got to be joking! N900 is light years ahead when it comes to the hardware of the iPhone, I think perhaps you mean the "ecosystem"? (all their apps, the way everything works slickly together etc...) As for sure I'll completely agree with you that is a 100% better on the iPhone.

I'd still take an N900 any day however...  but that is because I want more power over "flash".

Light years ahead of the iPhone 4 hardware? Er, in a word, no.

Iphone has a superior CPU, vastly superior GPU, better sound quality because of its superior DSP, better screen resolution+display characteristics+touch response, essentially all its internals are light years ahead of the N900.

Which aspects of the N900's hardware were you thinking of that are light years ahead of the iPhone 4???

I'm not a particularly big Apple fan, and I'd recommend any of several Android handsets myself, but unless you're a hard out Linux geek there is really no question between only these two handsets.

Harsh harsh harsh........but mostly all true.....

The N900 is a geeks phone, highly modifiable.....but no longer well supported.....the enthusiasm has died.
Nokia are in disarray.

The iPhone.....just goes from strength to strengh.....as Apple just continue to improve it with every new version of hardware and software.

But personally.....I will NEVER buy an iPhone.....as I despise the locked down nature of Apple products and the iPhone.......I will not be forced to use iTunes!
And not being able to watch my extensive movie collection on an Apple device without the hassle of converting the files.....no thanks!
And then there is the Adobe Flash arguement!.......WTF?

But thats just me.

I'd get an n900. But I'm a bit of a linux geek. I'd love a bash shell with apt-get install capabilites...

I was sooo excited when they announced the launch of the Nokia N900. But I agree with the other posts. The hype is died and so has any future growth for N900 development. The Iphone 4 is much more polished. You not thinking of Android as an option?
