Hi, folks. It's been a month since the previous thread about the 4020, so I was wondering if anyone has bought or used one yet and, if so, what's the verdict?

I'm contemplating whether to get one myself, or whether to take the 'safe' option instead (i.e. Nokia 3586 or 6585). I'm not too fussed about the whizz bang features, so I am particularly interested in ease of use, build quality, battery life, and other niggly little things like that.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Hey Alasta, my flatmate and I both bought the Gtran 4020 3 weeks ago, and so far we both like it, as it is the first flip phone I have bought it is really good. We are trying to get hold of a external camera and data cable as well.

from what i hear, this phone has been hugely popular, and supply has been unable to meet demand in this country.
Also, expect a bunch more cool CMDAs before christmas.

Thanks for your comments, guys. I'm really tempted to get one of the Gtran handsets, but I'm not in a huge hurry to upgrade, because the Kyocera 2235 that I'm using at the moment is still pretty good.

I think I'll sit tight and wait for some other options before I decide on the Gtran. If they release any MMS enabled handsets, will it be possible to send and receive MMS messages to and from 021 users, or will they need to set up some kind of interconnection agreement with Vodafone for this to be possible?

MMS capable CDMA phones do exist, so it's only a matter of time till Telecom NZ offer some. and christmas is looming on the sales radar, so might be a matter of weeks.

regarding interoperability with Vodafone, I don't know. It's up to the lawyers.

If the lawyers don't sort it out, there will probably be a few rogue gateways around for those in the know, like there was b4 sms worked between the networks.

Madcat, the data cables are available through any Telecom store. We supply the stores. Information on the cable can be found in our website http://www.pccard.co.nz just do a search for DAT-USB-4020 and it should list it.

As for getting one, they're not a current phone any longer, but there are a number of them still being sold as 2nd hand through trademe - www.trademe.co.nz

Goto the website, Products, in the left hand column is a search box. Type in DAT-USB-4020 and hit search. It should return one result.

$179 ?!?!

Hmmm, that seems very expensive for a cable... BUT, I guess it is worth it.

Will have to look into that.

Thanks
