Looks like you can buy a GSM version.  You won't loose this in a snow storm  like a white iPhone 4 which  been delayed until  northern spring 2011..

Before anyone asks, the Startac is a 900 MHz GSM handset. This means it will only work on Vodafone and 2degrees, and only on 2G areas.

This excludes all their 3G services and obviously areas where they only offer 3G Extended, which is 900 MHz WCDMA.

Remember 900 MHz WCDMA is not the same as 900 MHz GSM. They are very distinct networks.

I had an analog 8500 that needed a second battery on the back to just get thru a whole day. was the shiz compared to the giant bricks that others had from the warehouse on gold mobile etc.

I've still got an AMPS one in a drawer at home. Can't bring myself to throwing it away.. The last day of AMPS service here I pulled it out and charged it up to discover it still have $35 of credit on it so used it until it ran out..
