The Kyocera SE47 Slider appeared briefly on the telcom site, then vanished.
it was here: http://www.telecom.co.nz/content/0,3900,203392-201676,00.html

and you can still find it in googles cache:
http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:MZXjjo_UABIJ:www.telecom.co.nz/ content/0,3900,203392-201676,00.html+kyocera+SE47&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

a pic is here:
http://www.telecom.co.nz/images/2/kyocerase47.jpg

it looks a lot like the Siemens SL55 (gsm)

i wonder why they pulled it from the site. changed their mind?

I saw a couple of these when I went to TNZ to get the HTC Falcon for our review. They're really tiny. Nothing very special about them, but very fashion oriented mobile phones. Pretty much like the Siemens Xelibri series.

The Slider is due within the next few weeks. I have one and it is a very cool phone.

I know that the Nokia 6585 must be due soon, because Nokia were recently running an online competition to promote this handset (http://www.nokia6585.com/). Interestingly, though, the 6585 doesn't feature on Nokia's web site (even in the 'coming soon' section).

I personally like the look of the Kyocera Slider, because I am currently using a Kyocera 2235 and I have found it excellent. However, I think I'll wait for some more of the new product to emerge before making a final decision.

The new nokias are all so wonderfully bug free, that they can release them whenever they want. they're prob just time it for christmas.

Seems to me telecom is leading the way in handsets among worldwide CDMA networks. I wish i culd ditch my GSM, but still no BT.

blah to qualcomm

The CDMA Roadmap looks good for next year. A few nice toys in the line up. Nokia and Telecom seem to be working well together with getting good handsets to the market. Also they have the falcon PDA/Phone device coming out, and I hear there is a Symbian-based smart phone in the loop. We will see...

A couple of friends in the office got the Slider and one of them complained that the control keypad does not lit up, and you can only use the menu while the phone is open. A few things to tweak in the user interface, perhaps?

Cancel that! Apparently his phone is a faulty unit... He's sending it back for repair or replacement...

how's the voice quality on the slider?

how long does it take to boot up? are the menus responsive?

how robust does the slider appear - i'm not a big fan of moving parts beyond a simple flip. Does it feel robust enough to handle a couple slides a day for a couple years?

I've seen three of these phones around our office (mainly because we have a corporate account and some folks here upgraded the phones this week). They have quite good voice quality, and the screen is great! I don't think open/close will cause much tear - of course I don't expect the user to be "playing" with that.

Quite a nice phone. One of the chaps got it because he wanted a small one to fit in the pocket while cycling. Quite good really.

I've posted the review of the HTC Falcon Pocket PC before, and Telecom arranged that for me (it's not even in the market yet!), but I have to check other mobile phones with them. I have to admit it's not as easy as with the other operator, but things are moving. Let's wait and see.

OTOH I'm just using now (Dec 2003) a new Palm OS based smartphone (the name starts with T and finishes with 600) to be launched on the GSM/GPRS network here soon. I'll post a review next week (just finished the Dell Axim X3 now, so I need a rest).

I see the colour display Phantom (KE-414c) is now showing on the web site. Looks like a great handset for anyone who wants colour on a tight budget.

hhmmm....MMS on the 18th December. Really? I see the TX95C and Nokia 6225 in the road map... Why are they taking the MMS functions out of the Nokia 3105 and 6585 then?
