Are all phones bought from Vodafone stores infected with their ugly Vodafone theme for the menus and all that? Or is it just some they do that to?

No you master reset the handset not format it

What happens if you format a PC hard drive (it wipes everything)

Factory is the Vodafone branding thats the way they come

Depending on the type of handset some can be flashed to the handset maker firmware

But this will only be actioned by joe bloggs not SE or Nokia ETC

Some phones also have themes which let you change icons etc.
